Responsibilities
The Director Nursing Surgical Services is accountable for the implementation of the vision, mission and values of Mayo Clinic and nursing services within defined areas of practice. The individual is responsible and accountable for department operations, fiscal/financial management, quality, service, environment of care/safety, risk management, and human resource management. The Director is responsible for all inpatient and /or outpatient areas at a specific site or for service line across multiple sites (i.e., for all Emergency Departments in a region). The scope of responsibility is in respect to leadership and management, planning and problem solving, quality assessment and continuous improvement, personnel management, systems, facilities, equipment and supplies management, financial management, and compliance with licensing/regulatory agency requirements. The individual is responsible for strategic direction and leadership for clinical nursing activities to ensure the provision of essential quality services to meet the needs of those served within the practice. The individual is responsibility for operations and clinical components including the physician practice within a department and works as a team member with the physician chair of the department. The Director with ambulatory responsibilities manage/schedule physician schedules and commitments. The Director assists in the development and implementation of system wide policies and procedures, and leading and/or participating in various improvement teams to accomplish objectives at the system and departmental levels. The individual actively participates in appropriate decision making bodies. The Director will maintain a safe and professional environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s (BSN) and Master’s degree required. If no BSN, candidate must be a graduate from accredited master’s in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, business, or health related field as approved by Mayo Clinic Nurse Executive Committee. The master’s in nursing degree/DNP must meet Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) standards.
  • Minimum of three years RN experience.
  • Must have surgical or procedural experience.
  • Minimum of two years of healthcare management experience.
