Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

As Intercept continues to build its position as the leader in rare and serious liver disease, we are seeking a Director, Health Systems & Outcomes. The Director of Health Systems & Outcomes (HSO) is a therapeutic, disease, population health and health systems focused field-based role who develops on-going professional relationships with healthcare decision makers for a designated set of national/regional payers and provider organizations (e.g., health plans, organized providers, integrated delivery networks, large group practices). The HSO Director provides accurate clinical and health economic scientific information across the full Intercept product portfolio, clinical science, and quality management in a balanced and credible manner consistent with the regulatory environment and Intercept’s ethical standards. Through a deep understanding of the accounts’ population health strategies, the HSO Director serves as the medical account manager, collaborating and coordinating with other Medical Affairs colleagues and select commercial roles, to bring relevant health care information and solutions to these accounts. This role serves as a resource for the U.S. Medical Affairs management team and leads key strategic initiatives as assigned.

The assigned geographical region for this position is the eastern half of the United States.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The successful candidate must be able to perform each of the following satisfactorily, with or without an accommodation:

  • Drive the spirit of “ONE Team” across all functions by supporting a team approach to focus on our patients as our top priority
  • Understand the legal and compliance environment and drive collaboration with the Legal and Compliance team
  • Attend and support scientific, managed care, and medical meetings; prepare planned post-meeting deliverables
  • Closely collaborate with Medical Research on HEOR projects, asset development, and advice on tools and data in development, including leading certain projects and liaising between the site and internal stakeholders
  • Generate new ideas or applications that support the corporate, Medical Affairs and/or Field Medical objectives
  • Provide training to other field medical or Intercept employees by skillfully and appropriately presenting scientific information
  • Serve as the internal medical subject matter expert for each national and healthcare account, which enables strategic assessments and medical account management, through a complete and systematic communication process to the rest of U.S. Medical Affairs
  • Lead medical account management and planning with associated medical affairs functions for assigned national accounts
  • Actively participate on internal project teams and cross-functional teams (i.e., Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs Training, Medical Research, Key Accounts Planning or MA Medical Strategy) as assigned
  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert for Medical Affairs colleagues
  • Maintain a macro view of the account to appropriately allocate Intercept resources (e.g., human, technical)
  • Develop ongoing professional relationships with key decision makers in national organized health systems, serving as the primary medical contact to ensure access to medical and scientific information on the full Intercept product portfolio and areas of therapeutic interest, as well as non-product initiatives and areas of focus (e.g., quality management, outcomes research, adherence)
  • Proactively share customer insights to help inform, advance, and support medical brand strategies, customer educational needs, health outcomes, and research priorities
  • Build and develop breadth and depth of relationships with key decision makers and can anticipate the account’s population health management goals and needs
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with field and HQ Medical Affairs colleagues regarding medical and scientific support needs in relevant health systems accounts
  • Partner with Key Accounts and Market Access teams to address strategic account plans and develop associated medical account plans and then ensure execution of medical activities are aligned with agreed plan
  • Serve as a technical resource for questions raised by Key Account Management and staff on Intercept products
  • Serve as the primary resource for national market dynamics to fully understand evolving information needs by decision makers to feed into the ongoing value-proposition development process for Intercept’s offerings – product and non-product

Benefits

COMPANY CULTURE:

We’re equally passionate about our team and ensuring each member from all dimensions of diversity feels included and has the opportunity to reach their potential. We recognize the power of a diverse, equitable and inclusive (DEI) work force, and how it enriches the professional lives of our team members. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion drives innovation and connects us to the patients and communities we serve.

As we grow, we want to make every effort to provide a safe and open environment for professionals of every background and provide knowledge on how to work inclusively and equitably to make Intercept a great place to work.

Our relatively small size means you partner with accessible leaders who know you by name. This brings accountability and growth, which all add up to more opportunities to learn something new every day. For self-motivated leaders who are ready to make a difference in the lives of patients, Intercept is a great place to be.

COMPANY SUMMARY:

At Intercept, our mission is to build a healthier tomorrow for patients with rare and serious liver diseases. Intercept’s lead product, obeticholic acid (OCA), is a first-in-class farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist marketed under the brand name “Ocaliva®” in the U.S., EU and Canada for the treatment of patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a rare autoimmune liver disease. In 2016, Ocaliva® was the first medication to be approved for PBC in over twenty years, and sales continue to grow.

Intercept continues to build on our ongoing commitment to people living with PBC by progressing our research portfolio with a novel fixed-dose combination of OCA and bezafibrate. The first Phase 2 interim analysis of this combination was presented at the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) congress in June of 2023. Further, we are leveraging our decades of research and background in bile acids and FXR agonism to expand our pipeline in other liver diseases, such as severe alcohol-associated hepatitis (sAH).

The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $187,000 to $281,000. This represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range, based on various factors including, but not limited to, experience, skillset, and performance.
