Job Description
NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our team of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and the globe from our offices in Beijing; Bozeman, Montana; Chicago; New Delhi; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; and Washington, D.C.


NRDC is seeking a Director, Digital Advertising to work with the Communications team in our New York, NY or Washington, DC office.


Position Summary


The Director, Digital Advertising will oversee the development and management of an advertising strategy that’s audience-centric and aligned with NRDC’s goals and budgets. The position will oversee advertising campaigns with advocacy, fundraising, engagement, brand and acquisition goals, and coordination of internal advertising requests across the organization and advertising vendors .


The position will report to the Senior Director, Campaigns and Marketing and will oversee the Campaigns & Advertising Associate, a s well as coordinate multiple advertising consultants. The Director will be responsible for developing a holistic ad strategy, support the team in prioritizing requests coming from a variety of NRDC teams and departments, as well as lead collaboration with the analytics team and agencies to optimize reporting and advertising analytics, including return on investment (ROI) and long-term value (LTV).


This position will support NRDC and the NRDC Action Fund, and will engage with advocacy, fundraising and engagement efforts at the national, regional, state, and local level, leading campaigns that are audience-centric, can engage existing and new and diverse audiences, acquire donors and donor leads, and do so following DEI principles.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with analytics team and partners to optimize reporting, analytics and tracking of advertising campaigns, and to identify and manage target audiences for advertising running at the national and state/local level.
  • Identify ways to leverage advertising to power growth initiatives with established audiences, but also to pilot acquisition with new audiences.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Campaigns and Marketing and the Senior Director of Digital Advocacy and Engagement to ensure alignment on advocacy, engagement, and advocacy goals across advertising channels.
  • Place and monitor some media buys and adjust as necessary to optimize results.
  • Develop and guide tests involving tactics, audiences, creative , messaging, etc., with clear learning outcomes for short and long-term optimization and impact.
  • Oversee the Campaigns & Advertising Associate and coordinate multiple advertising consultants.
  • In collaboration with the wider Campaigns and Digital Engagement Leadership team, other internal teams and agency partners, develop annual and quarterly advertising strategies and budgets that aligns with NRDC’s audiences and goals.
  • Use analytics to measure ROI on ad buys and platforms and use that data to inform future advertising strategies.
  • Supervise digital advertising campaigns across channels and campaigns, including paid search, social, and display, email buys, co-registration, and affiliate marketing, helping identify the relevant KPIs for each channel and relevant audiences.
  • Develop ad budget trackers and/or dashboards that track spend.
  • Ability to develop audience-centric ad strategies and culturally relevant campaigns with DEI lens
  • Oversee implementation of segmentation and audience management across digital advertising platforms.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of advertising campaigns to ensure successful audience engagement and activation, from intake to editorial and creative review to placement and reporting.
  • Track overall budgets, vendors and billing associated with advertising campaigns.
  • Develop media plans, research and ID new advertising platforms and stay on top of advertising trends.
  • Optimize advertising investments against goals.

Qualifications


Minimum Education & Experience :


  • 8+ years experience with proven results in developing and executing successful campaigns, including campaigns for advocacy, engagement, and fundraising. Experience should range from hands-on executional media planning, media buys and execution, to holistic budget and strategy development across multiple digital advertising channels and goals.
  • Experience working with a variety of advertising types, including programmatic display, paid social, video, and paid search, including using platforms like Google Campaign Manager, Google Display, Video 360, and Meta ads.
  • Experience working in all aspects of campaign management, including audience identification, setup, ad trafficking, optimizations, and reporting and analysis.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits , and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $126,000 to $145,000.
