The Director of Communications uses media relations and other communications strategies to shape and share the United Way story with our community. This position is responsible for implementing communications strategies for United Way and its family of brands including: the annual campaign, Volunteer Center, 100 Neediest Cases, and United Way 2-1-1. Additionally, this position is responsible for event oversight including venue, catering, entertainment, logistics, etc.
This role interacts with the media and releases statements on behalf of the organization, writes organization communications and materials, and attends United Way events as necessary. Writes speeches, letters, emails and other communications designed to reach donors.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years experience in communications or marketing. A Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communication, public relations, English or similar field strongly preferred. Writing skills for media, (B2B, B2C, and AP style) and demonstrated skills in editing, communications, media pitching, public speaking, writing and creative thinking required.
