Job Description

Arts Collaborative Medford (ACM) seeks its first Director: a cooperative and transformational leader committed to equitable, inclusive community building and shared leadership. This person will have an entrepreneurial, collaborative mindset and is excited by the work to bring this new community arts center to life. ACM is looking for people who have:

  • Flexibility and comfort with the evolving nature of a start-up non-profit;

  • Passion for the role of arts and culture in strengthening communities;


Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities and priority areas established by the ACM Board: Facility and Operations Management, Community Relationships, Fundraising and Philanthropy, Non-Profit Management, Equity, and Inclusion.

  • Develop tools and resources to create a sustainable organizational model.
  • Foster a respectful and welcoming environment, acting as “the face” of ACM.
  • Form and maintain partnerships with individuals and organizations such as community-based groups, City departments, local schools, and colleges (especially Tufts University).
  • Help ACM in its foundational year, such as preparing the building, creating new business routines and norms, marketing, and community outreach.
  • Establish operating procedures in collaboration with the Board.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, including cleaning of common areas, ordinary repairs, and general upkeep. Brings in and manages contractors and maintenance service providers as needed.
  • Communicate and engage with individuals and entities in the cultural community.
  • Provide overall on-site management of the building, facilities, and artist studio spaces and act as a link between ACM and Theory Wellness.
  • Serve as point of contact for building users, including studio artists/makers, classroom and event space users, and the public. Handles inquiries and issues related to maintenance, rentals, reservations, and building use policies.
  • Fiscal management of budget, accounting, and cash flows with ACM Treasurer.
  • Initiate and direct the development of policies and long-range planning.

  • Experience with one or more leadership responsibilities, including administrative, organizational management, strategic planning, fundraising, budgeting, human resources, facility management, fiscal oversight, and Board relations.
  • Willingness to learn, communicate, and incorporate relevant trends, issues, challenges, and opportunities within the arts, community development, and non-profit sector.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be highly organized.
  • Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
  • Experience managing and fostering positive community relationships.
  • Has the ability to balance a big-picture mindset with attention to detail.
  • Background in the arts and/or humanities preferred.


Additional Details:

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The position requires occasional work on nights and weekends.
  • This is an exempt, full-time salaried position.
  • The position requires the ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.
