Are you passionate about social justice and ready to make a difference in the lives of the men who live with challenging multiple diagnoses? As a Direct Support Professional, you will teach life skills and assist individuals to succeed as members of their communities!

Supports To Empower People (STEP) provides comprehensive, 24 hour residential and day support for adult men who have intellectual/developmental disabilities (ID/DD) as well as significant behavioral and mental health concerns. The principles of Dialectical Behavioral Treatment (DBT) are adapted for the individual and integrated into all aspects of supports. STEP provides empowering support in a therapeutically receptive environment which allows participants to embark upon the clinical challenges encountered and to safely explore and pursue dreams.

What You’ll Do:

• It is the responsibility of the DSP to help each man to fully enjoy and pursue his life in a heathy and safe manner.
• Implement all Individual Support Plans, Behavior Plans and Nursing Care plans as well as document progress and concerns toward these goals. The individuals supported have a variety of interests: employment, volunteering, sports, recreation, as well as household, family and friends.
• Coach, advocate, mentor, and teach in a caring and respectful manner.
• Provide empowering support, enabling fuller lives to safely explore & pursue personal dreams.

Requirements:

• Must be 21 years or older.
• Valid Driver’s License with access to an insured, registered and inspected vehicle.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Clear verbal and written communication skills are a must.

• Must have a positive and supportive approach, critical thinking skills and ability to think “outside the box”.
• Background and driving record checks will be performed.
• All schedules include weekend hours and meeting on Thursdays.
• Must have the willingness and desire to provide services above and beyond “the norm”.
