Direct Support Professional - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a full time Day Support, Direct Support Professional at our Chesapeake location. Applicants must have the ability to work Mon. through Fri. - 8:00AM- 4:00PM.


Primary Function

Provides direct care to individuals with severe mental and physical disabilities, assisting in the development and implementation of individualized service plans designed to enhance community integration and maximize optimal level of functioning. Works with groups and 1 to 1, conducting center based activities and community outings. Completes required documentation.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting with feeding
  • Teaching life skills, such as, safety awareness, social skills, communication skills
  • Leading group activities
  • Collecting data
  • Practicing gross and fine motor skills
  • Implements individualized Services Plans by providing direct care, training, and support to associates, in a caring and dignified manner. Such activities may include:
    • Assisting with toileting and other personal care
    • Leading group activities
    • Teaching life skills, such as, safety awareness, social skills, communication skills
    • Assisting with feeding
    • Collecting data
    • Facilitating community outings
    • Practicing gross and fine motor skills
    • Medication administration
  • Assisting with toileting and other personal care

  • Documents program activities in a timely manner and in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Assists with chart reviews and providing training in documentation requirements for other Direct Support Professionals.
  • Uses positive behavioral support techniques to intervene and redirect problem behaviors and follows reporting requirements.
  • Maintains an awareness of safety issues to ensure the safety and well-being of associates and staff
  • Collaborates with other service providers and family or guardians, as necessary.
  • Works as a member of a team to maintain multi-person vans.
  • Attends all required meetings and training.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor or designee.


Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED with experience working with individuals with severe disabilities. Experience using Microsoft office. Acceptable driving record, criminal background clearance drug screening, and completion of mandatory training required.
