Job Description
Job Responsibilities


The South Carolina State Election Commission is to ensure every eligible citizen has the opportunity to register to vote and participate in fair and impartial elections with the assurance that every vote will count.


Reporting to the Public Information Officer, the Voter Education and Outreach Coordinator (Digital Media Designer) must be creative and enjoy working within an environment that is mission-driven and team oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations and will possess strong visual, written and verbal communication skills. The ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities is imperative. The Digital Media Designer must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.


The Digital Media Designer will be responsible for the following:


  • Assists with the creation of social media content calendars and social media content, as well as scheduling social media postings while serving as back up for the social media coordinator.
  • Maintains an appropriate and accessible repository for all approved visual media content.
  • Occasional travel will be required. After hours work on election night will be required. After-hours and weekend work may be required when preparing for election season.
  • Regularly reviews agency website(s) to ensure the delivery of current and accurate content.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Supports annual review of agency branding to ensure it is deployed appropriately through all communications channels and updated as needed.
  • Designs print collateral and creates graphics for agency use.
  • Assists with the creation of print layouts and concepts for graphics branding packages consistent with agency brand standards and in line with the communications strategy.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


  • A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience o r an associate degree and five (5) years of professional experience in art and experience in graphics programs.
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, and social media web platforms.
  • Expert understanding of interactive design and graphic design principles and can span multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Possess strong conceptual and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to access a wide range of sources and networks for information. Good judgment and ability to function independently.
  • Portfolio of graphic design work to include branding creation, social media collateral and website design showing at least two years of experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take initiative, multi-task, be a team-player, be flexible, adapt to shifting priorities, and prioritize work.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, with a focus on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with the functions and processes of South Carolina state government.
