The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis seeks a tech-savvy librarian, archivist, or information professional who can bring energy and experience to help drive the success of the Federal Reserve’s archives program by providing support for FedPreserve, an internal digital preservation application.
The Digital History & Archives team falls within the Homer Jones Memorial Library in the Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. In addition to supporting FedPreserve, team members work collaboratively to maintain and develop collections in the FRASER digital library, content on the Federal Reserve History website, and the Bank’s corporate archive.
Job Duties
  • Support the digital preservation & ingest work of archivists across the Federal Reserve System by developing end user documentation, providing training for new and existing users, and providing tools, assistance, and consultation to support preservation work.
  • Coordinate and assist with application maintenance as the primary contact point between the product vendor, internal IT support, archivists, and other end users. Conduct testing, investigate technical issues, and follow security policies.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop standards and best practices related to metadata schema, controlled vocabularies, preservation activities, collection structures, etc.
  • Conduct system administration functions including managing user requests and implementing changes, managing access and security, and monitoring system reports.
Qualifications/Skills
Required
  • Experience utilizing APIs and web services to search and interact with third-party systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to work with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience implementing metadata standards (METS, MODS, PREMIS, DC, etc); Experience creating, validating, transforming, crosswalking and bulk editing XML based metadata (or similar experience with JSON based metadata)
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies; skill in critical examination of archival trends
  • 3+ years’ experience working in the Digital Archives field
  • Demonstrated experience with XML, and with scripting languages and/or tools for data manipulation (e.g. OpenRefine, Python, XSLT, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, ability to work independently and as part of a highly motivated team
Preferred
  • Master's degree in Library Science with formal course work or training in Archival Studies
  • Digital Archives Specialist certificate from the Society of American Archivists
  • Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists
