Description:

The purpose of the position is to facilitate existing, create new nutritional programs, and provide nutritional education and counseling to staff, patients, families and Mile Square Health Center groups to promote the well-being of the patients of Mile Square.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides individual and group nutritional counseling to patients and/or significant others regarding improving and/or maintain good nutritional habits.
  • Develops nutritional care plans recognizing the needs and behaviors of various age groups; ie., maternal and child growth and development; specific dietary interventions related to medical diagnoses; education for the adult learner; cultural eating habits , activity level and learning ability.
  • Develops and evaluates patient education materials applicable to nutrition or relative to disease management.
  • Maintains medical documentation and reports as appropriate.
  • Attends and participates in multidisciplinary patient care conferences and collaborates with medical professionals regarding individual plans for care.
  • Attends professional meetings/conferences relevant to nutrition.
  • Implements/Develops policy and procedures for nutritional protocols as needed.
  • Acts as preceptor for UIC dietetic interns
  • Maintains CDR certification through appropriate professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:


  • Possession of current Registered Dietitian licensure from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations and credentials and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in a dietetic setting, outpatient.
