Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, responsible for receiving, breaking down, and properly storing department food and supply deliveries. Ensure proper rotation of stock, monitor expiration dates, and dispose of outdated products. Assemble and deliver floor stock. Perform routine and special cleaning assignments. Clean equipment, storage areas, coolers, kitchen floors and walls. Collect trash from work areas and transport to collection bins for removal to dock. Use of commercial kitchen equipment. Assist with patient meal service functions. Knowledge and application of safe food handling practices. Communicate effectively. Provide excellent patient and family centered care and service.


Essential Duties:

  • Rotates stock and ensures proper FIFO procedures are followed. Monitors expiration dates and disposes of outdated product.
  • Performs routine and special cleaning assignments. Cleans equipment, storage areas and shelving, coolers and shelving, kitchen floors and walls. Performs other cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Transports food carts within department, and patient care areas or other locations as assigned. Assembles and delivers floor stock.
  • Receives department deliveries from vendors, separates products, and distributes to appropriate storage areas.
  • Applies principles of safe food handling during storage, assembly, production, and service. Records food and equipment temperatures as required. Properly labels and dates products.
  • Collects trash from work areas and transports to collection bins for removal to dock.
  • Communicates effectively within department and with all hospital departments, patients, and staff.
  • Assists with patient meal service functions.
  • Stores product according to established standards to ensure food safety.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes equipment, kitchen areas and galleys/pantries on the patient units according to established standards for safety and sanitation. Collects and disposes of trash in work area.

Education / Training:

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.

Work Experience:

  • Food service experience preferred.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • None

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to function in a physically demanding fast paced environment with exposure to temperature extremes
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products.
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task and stay focused in a busy environment.
