Job Description
National and Alamo has an exciting opportunity for a Diesel Technician Apprentice. The Diesel Technician Apprentice works under little supervision and follows established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks. The Diesel Tech Apprentice is a skilled position that requires the ability to perform bus and medium duty diesel truck mechanical and warranty repairs, as well as diagnose and troubleshoot drivability problems, according to company policy and procedures.
  • Hourly rate of $33 - $36/ hour based on years of experience and certifications

Responsibilities:

  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Maintain vehicle repair history by documenting a Repair Order to accurately reflect steps taken and part(s) used during the repair.
  • Provide safe and reliable vehicles upon completion of repairs.
  • Do routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts.
  • Read and interpret diagnostic test results, often by using dials, gauges, and other computer equipment.
  • Maintain the work area in a safe, clean condition and comply with all uniform and equipment standards.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles.
  • Utilize multiple manufacturers’ websites, software and diagnostic tools.
  • Comply with part and inventory tracking procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • May process new fleet, LOFR, tires, fuel reclamation or buy-backs.
  • Participate in company and manufacturer approved training or other industry related training.
  • Perform routine and annual DOT required repairs and inspections.
  • Ensure that all warranty and mechanical repairs are completed according to the manufacturer’s specifications and guidelines.
  • Maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance and punctuality

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / G.E.D. required
  • CDL Preferred (not required)
  • Minimum of two years of mechanical experience working on buses or medium duty trucks.
  • Subject to a pre-employment drug test and if hired, will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A minimum of 2 ASE's required to start, an additional 2 achieved within 18 months of hire (we will reimburse passed tests)
  • Must have satisfactory background check inclusive of driving (no more than 2 moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past 3 years, and no drug or alcohol related conviction on driving record in the last 5 years)
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job (heavy lifting, bending down, moving quickly, and working outside) with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • Ability to operate manufacturer diagnostic equipment.
