The Dialysis Technician position, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, provides clinical and technical services in the care of the hemodialysis patient. This position requires population specific competencies. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

The Dialysis Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs order entry, fingerstick blood sugars and ISTATS as directed
  • Stocks supplies, performs inventory and ordering of supplies to maintain appropriate par levels
  • Observes patient, monitors and records treatment parameters, patient weight and vital signs and reports changes to RN
  • Assesses patients for mode of transportation to and from dialysis (use of lift, Pal or wheelchair)
  • Prepares and maintains dialysis machines and equipment

The Dialysis Technician is reports to the Clinical Director of Acute Dialysis.

This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Please consult the Physical Demands Project SharePoint site or contact Risk Management/Employee Health for additional information.

Moderate exposure to hazardous risks, including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals. Potential for bodily injury related to lifting and incidents of workplace violence. Must follow universal safety precautions. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise, disagreeable odors, and assorted chemicals. High degree of risk on an occasional basis n handling compressed gases and medical oxygen cylinders. Fire or explosive injuries are always possible in handling of such devices. Constantly travels to different patient units. Must wear universal protective clothing.

  • CPR certification mandatory within 2 months of employment with renewal as set by the American Heart Association
