Position Purpose:

Performs sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in patient status as appropriate
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and attend to all age-related physical, spiritual, and psychosocial needs.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders in order to perform prescribed study.
  • At the direction of a qualified physician or advance practice provider (APP), performs a variety of procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of ultrasonic equipment for the diagnosis of disease in humans.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including re-positioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

  • Serves as a champion for patient safety.
  • Participates in CU Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and metrics.
  • Must be able to travel/cover to alternate locations as assigned
  • Ensures that the service expectations of both internal and external customers are met and/or exceeded.
  • Ensures compliance with all infection control standards.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies (CDPHE, CMS, OSHA, etc.)

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required
  • General Diagnostician: 2-3 years of ultrasound technician experience
  • Obstetric/MFM Diagnostician: 4-6 ultrasound technician experience
  • Registered as a Technologist (RT) and certified in Sonography (S) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). State licensure if required by law

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position begins at $68,496 per year.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
