Detective Investigator Trainee: Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) – Rochester

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking qualified candidates for Detective Investigator
Trainee positions in our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) – Rochester. Candidates should
be hard working, motivated, and committed to public service on behalf of the people of the State
of New York.

MFCU, the centerpiece of New York’s efforts to combat Medicaid provider fraud, conducts
complex investigations in fraud committed by Medicaid providers and others in the healthcare
industry who steal from New York State, those involved in the diversion of prescription
narcotics, and to investigate and prosecute abuse and neglect of residents in nursing homes,
hospitals, and other residential healthcare facilities.

Detective Investigator Trainees work collaboratively in case-specific teams with Detective
Investigators, Assistant Attorneys General, analysts, and forensic auditors to learn how to
conduct highly complex criminal and civil investigations, using the highest level of
professionalism, judgement, and discretion.

Minimum qualifications:

Either a two (2) year or four (4) year college degree or current New York State Police Officer
Certification.

Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License with the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Must have the ability to successfully complete all requirements to obtain NYS basic police
academy certification if not current holding same.

The NYS Public Officer’s Law requires that all police officers be citizens of the United States of
America and reside within the State of New York at the time of appointment.

Candidates should possess strong writing, analytical and organizational skills. Candidates will
be required to combine traditional investigative skills with strong interpersonal skills and the
ability to work as part of an investigative team.

Preferred qualifications and skills:

Cultural competence to understand and effectively respond to cultural differences for
involvement in undercover operations and/or otherwise to be inserted into investigations and
interactions with targets across cultures.

Strong communications, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Proficiency with computers, common word processing applications, use of search engines and
internet research.

The ability to read, write, speak and understand a second language, in addition to English.


Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends
and requires 24/7 availability. This position is in the exempt class, and incumbents serve at the
pleasure of the Attorney General. The Hire Rate for this position is $61,587.
