Job Description

MAJOR DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Greet patients with courtesy and respect. Answer questions and direct requests appropriately and efficiently.

2. Provide direct patient care in the office, under the direction and in accordance with supervising physician.

3. Document care provided in the office setting within 24 hours.

4. Provide physician examination(s).

5. Obtain patient medical, social and family history, drug allergies, current medications and vital signs.

6. Establish presumptive diagnoses and be responsible under the physician’ supervision for the management of the patient’s problems following diagnosis.

7. Initiate appropriate laboratory, radiological and special examinations for tests required for the evaluation of illness and prepared written summary of care.

8. Communicate with patients the plan of treatment regarding after consultation with the supervising physician.

9. Review patient records and educate patient and family members regarding visit, examination, treatment and medications, to include side effects, procedures (including written pre and post-op care) and testing.

10. Answer incoming telephone calls as needed and

a. take message if appropriate and document,

b. determine status of patient’s symptoms, and direct care accordingly, i.e. inform doctor if immediate is needed, offer work- in versus routine appointment, and refer patient to emergency room for emergent issues.

11. Schedule all surgeries on physician schedule and with concerned facilities

12. Assistant to physician in all surgeries

13. Schedule pre-operative x-rays and laboratory work.

14. Report laboratory and x-ray results to patient, after physician instruction.

15. Prescribes and/or adjust prescription medications, in accordance with education and management protocols.

16. Adjust schedules according to physician’s request.

17. Anticipate departmental needs and improve office efficiency by assisting other staff as necessary.

18. Completes office/hospital charge slips with appropriate diagnosis/CPT code and submits for data entry.

19. In absence of physician, the PA is the responsible provider in the office, per physician agreement.

20. Assist in the training of health care personnel in certain diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical techniques, as directed by the supervising physician.

21. Maintain all licenses and certifications, including maintaining the prescribed hours of medical education program attendance.

22. Maintain compliance with attached collaborative agreement with physician.

Offer assistance to anyone who appears lost or in need. Walk patients to their destination rather than pointing the way; use good elevator etiquette.
  • DEMONSTRATE A TEAM ATTITUDE. Remember you are part of a team, and the success of MCC is everyone’s responsibility. If you don’t know how to assist a patient or co-worker with an issue, find someone who can. Be personally responsible for making sure issues are addressed.
  • MAINTAIN A PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE. Wear your name badge at all times. Comply with the uniform policy for your department or job description. Confine gum chewing and eating to break areas; save personal conversations for break times; turn off non-work related cell phones. Maintain a neat and clean work area, both in your department and throughout MCC.
  • MAKE LASTING IMPRESSIONS POSITIVE ONES. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. End your interactions with patients, visitors and co-workers with a friendly or kind word. Make sure patients waiting alone at the front door have transportation home.
  • DEMONSTRATE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. Interact with all patients, visitors, and co-workers in a professional and upbeat manner. Be courteous, respectful, friendly, and helpful. Express yourself and your concerns using helpful words versus confrontational words or profanity. If you are unable to maintain a positive approach, remove yourself from the situation.

4. Perform other duties as may be assigned cheerfully and willingly.
