Job Description
THE POSITION

We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to join our dental team in the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene as a Dental Hygienist.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Dental Hygienist, you will be an essential part of the healthcare team in the Department of Corrections. You will be providing oral hygiene treatment to the inmate population at SCI Greene to include periodontal probing, scaling, root planning, and polishing required to remove calculus deposits, accretions, excess or flash restorative materials and stains from the exposed surfaces of the teeth and beneath the gingiva. You will also perform dental prophylaxis and apply fluorides or sealants, as necessary. Additional responsibilities of the position include preparing workspaces, materials, and tools for dental procedures; sterilizing tools and equipment; positioning chair and placing napkin over patients; exposing and processing radiographs of patients, as well as mounting and labeling radiographs appropriately, and evaluating them for diagnostic quality. You will be responsible for explaining preventative care, providing oral hygiene instruction, and providing nutritional counseling in relation to oral care.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirement:

  • Possession of a license to practice as a dental hygienist as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
Other Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.

  • You must pass a background investigation.
