No Weekends!

Lead one of our three age groups by implementing activities and supporting counselors, all while enjoying the summer sun!

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Day Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting camp counselors and the day to day running of their age group programs. They will organize and implement age appropriate activities, prepare for weather changes, and monitor the age specific programs. This position will also be closely involved in neutralizing child behavior situations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Communicate and work effectively with the Camp Director, Program Staff and Counselors in maintaining and addressing camper and programmatic needs.
  • Observing needs and concerns throughout the camp property
  • Scheduling and updating camper lists, staff assignments, and other scheduling matters
  • Be responsible for safety aspects of camp life which include, but are not limited to:
    • maintaining all First-Aid supplies and ensuring First-Aid Logs are filled out properly
    • following procedures laid out in camp manuals for handling ill and injured campers
    • being familiar with and able to lead emergency procedures
    • being familiar with geographic areas and potential dangers
    • observing needs and concerns throughout the camp property
    • being knowledgeable of all programs and activities
    • leading staff and campers through daily programs and activities
    • knowing and enforcing all rules for the camp property
    • providing corrective and disciplinary measures as needed for campers and staff
    • checking and restocking program and activity supplies and equipment
    • scheduling and updating camper lists, staff assignments, and other scheduling matters
    • updating the Camp Director and Program Staff of concerns and ongoing situations
    • assisting with Check In/Check Out and managerial operations
    • assisting with Camper Transportation
  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with all camp staff while communicating with the Camp Director, Camp Counselors, and Camp Coordinators as needed
  • Leading staff and campers through daily programs and activities
  • Work closely alongside the other coordinators and assisting where needed
  • Being knowledgeable of all programs and activities
  • Being familiar with geographic areas and potential dangers
  • Assisting with Camper Transportation
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Knowing and enforcing all rules for the camp property
  • Create and implement schedules and programs that fulfill and meet the needs of the Day Camp programming, Wisconsin State Licensing requirements, and American Camping Association.
  • Providing corrective and disciplinary measures as needed for campers and staff
  • Comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site to ensure the safety of the children and staff
  • Participate in all camp daily activities from 6:30am to 6:00pm in addition to Family Nights, overnight experiences, and the YMCA special events.
  • Identify safety concerns and issues that arise and develop plans to address them in short and long term solutions under the advisement of the Camp Director.
  • Maintaining all First-Aid supplies and ensuring First-Aid Logs are filled out properly
  • Ensure that all staff and children are respectful of camp property; ensure all camp rules are followed
  • Being familiar with and able to lead emergency procedures
  • Adhere to policies as stated in the YMCA Camp Policies and Procedures Manual and in subsequent YMCA trainings and meetings
  • Serve as a resource and advisor to staff through day to day observation and decision making.
  • Following procedures laid out in camp manuals for handling ill and injured campers
  • Updating the Camp Director and Program Staff of concerns and ongoing situations
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as they arise
  • Assisting with Check In/Check Out and managerial operations
  • Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents or co-workers.
  • Checking and restocking program and activity supplies and equipment


RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH CHILDREN:

  • Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth
  • Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; teach and redirect rather than scolding or reprimanding them; firmly and consistently enforce the rules
  • Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility
  • Express clear expectations and hold children accountable for adhering to them
  • Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect


RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH PARENTS:

  • Introduce yourself to parents and communicate with and welcome them regularly
  • Communicate regarding the behavior of their children positive and negative
  • Express appreciation for their interest in their child(s) participation in the program


** RANCH CAMP STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH HORSES:

  • Assess the skill level of each camper in order to match him or her with the appropriate horse for riding
  • Check equipment daily, maintain cleanliness and make (or request) repairs
  • Teach and monitor proper behavior around the horses and proper use of equipment
  • Review and update program for age appropriate learning and management of appropriate behavior of horses given each horse’s temperament and ability

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be organized and attentive to detail
  • Ability to function as part of a team in a mature and responsible manner
  • Has the ability to maintain confidentiality, maintain appropriate records and carry out job responsibilities in a timely manner
  • The ability to lift and carry items over 40 pounds
  • Good communication skills
  • Committed to the needs and interests of the camp
  • Be at least eighteen years of age by June 1st of corresponding year
  • The ability to work in outdoor conditions and environments for extended periods of time
  • Be certified in First Aid and CPR, with Life Guarding preferred (we can do certifications)
  • Ability to be punctual daily
  • Display the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility both in and out of camp
  • Ranch Camp Staff = Training experience with the care of horses as well as horseback riding and instruction
