About The Company:
Utah Retirement Systems (URS) provides benefits for state and other Utah public employees. It has two divisions. The Retirement Office administers pension and retirement savings plans. PEHP specializes in medical, dental, life, and other benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY
Support SQL databases and processes used for interfacing with Public Employees Health Program (PEHP) applications. This involves implementing and automating data feeds, monitoring data quality, troubleshooting data quality issues, and creating efficient SQL queries and stored procedures. Become an expert on the database schemas and structure to assist business users with ad-hoc and other reports. Participate in the testing and quality assurance processes.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Works under the direct supervision of the Applications Development Manager.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Assists with the migration process for monthly data conversions. This will involve creating, maintaining, and automating any changes in the conversion scripts and process and its accompanying data quality reports.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Participates in the quality assurance and testing of database interfaces and application processes.
  • Works independently.
  • Assists with troubleshooting and optimizing SQL code.
  • Documents key work functions.
  • Works closely with our business users and Project Management team to troubleshoot, understand, anticipate, and address evolving needs on data issues.
  • Develops SQL queries and stored procedures to support software applications.
  • Develops and maintains various ad-hoc and routine reports.
Required Experience:
Education and Experience
Associate degree or comparable relevant accredited certificate(s) and two (2) years of experience with enterprise level software development practices in a structured Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), must include experience with MS SQL Server 2010 or higher, including T-SQL and stored procedures, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of Health Insurance is preferred.

Certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related discipline is preferred.

Required technical skills include advance knowledge and ability of:
  • Diagnosing and resolving system, software, and data problems quickly and accurately.
  • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Data warehouse creation and maintenance.
  • Visual Studio database projects.
  • Importing and exporting large datasets to and from various sources.
  • Source Control Tools (Azure DevOps/Git Lab).

Required mathematical skills include working knowledge and ability of:
  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Mathematical transformations and calculations during data conversion and data cleansing.
  • Apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distributions and determination of test reliability and validity.

Must possess excellent communication skills:
  • Present at weekly department database meetings.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations.

Must have the ability to:
  • Work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Prioritize work.
  • Multi-task by handling a variety of duties in a timely and efficient manner.

Work Environment
Incumbent performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities which do not generally involve muscular strain, but do require activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions.
