The Administrative DBA will be responsible for day-to-day management and administration of specific database technologies for key systems within Crate&Barrel. They are responsible for first-level support and triage, managing tools and processes to ensure overall reliability, availability, recoverability, and security. They will partner with the DBA team leadership, functional owners of business systems, Technology infrastructure and development teams, managed service providers and company governance.

This is a Remote role.

A day in the life as an Administrative DBA…


  • Providing reporting to team leadership and functional owners on system performance and optimization opportunities
  • Executing database patching process through effective engagement with functional owners and managed service providers
  • Evaluating and reviewing industry trends that will allow the company to grow and scale quickly, with an eye toward innovation and automation
  • Managing incidents and work orders for the DBA team
  • Identifying repeatable tasks and proposing opportunities for automation and improvement
  • Managing daily maintenance jobs across all supported databases, taking corrective action as needed
  • Providing first level support for all escalated incidents
  • Partnering with governance and compliance on key deliverables and actions, including customary audits and other tasks as needed
  • Engaging with team leadership, external technology vendors, suppliers and outsourcing partners to ensure that proper database best practices are met
  • Managing team monitoring and alerting tools, adjusting and standardizing thresholds appropriately and in accordance with application criticality

What you’ll bring to the table…

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with public cloud database infrastructure and architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot, triage and handle major incidents across the organization
  • Proficiency in SQL Server database concepts and facilities
  • Knowledge of IBM i (iSeries, as/400) database concepts a plus
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to understand business requirements
  • Familiarity with key SDLC disciplines
  • Practical experience with industry database monitoring tools and automation tools
  • Experience with Oracle, DB2, Open Source database platforms a plus
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills

  • Practical experience with database backup/recovery solutions
  • Hands-on experience with replication technologies and solutions
  • Experience working with 3rd party providers and off-shore teams to deliver DBA capabilities
  • Practical experience with database fundamentals, such as indexing strategies and query execution plans
  • College degree in the field of computer science and/or 3-5 years’ equivalent work experience
  • Practical experience with database patching process and solutions
