General Summary

The Data Warehouse Architect is a key role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data architecture for the Digital Data Architecture at Mass General Brigham. This involves creating and refining conceptual, logical, and physical data models that align with current standards and conventions. The Data Warehouse Architect plays a crucial role in understanding the organization's data and analytic landscape, including data sources, assets, tools, and master data.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and revises conceptual, logical, and physical data models for Digital (i.e., Digital Data Architecture).
  • Builds and maintains a deep understanding of the data and analytic landscape at Mass General Brigham including data sources, data and analytic assets and products, analytic tools and software, and master data.
  • Develops and revises data dictionary definitions, governance practices, and standards.
  • Creates data models that conform to current standards and conventions.
  • Use/s the Mass General Brigham values to govern decisions, actions, and behaviors.   • Determines database structural requirements by analyzing business operations, applications, and programming; reviewing objectives with business partners; evaluating current systems.
  • Applies expertise and best practices to the development and revision of data architecture standards and conventions.
  • Presents technical solutions to stakeholders and end users.
  • Follows standards for technology and technical processes.
  • Assists in the Development of data asset training and documentation.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Interviews business users to obtain requirements for enhancements and/or new analytic assets
  • Partners with security architects to ensure compliance with data security and privacy policies and procedures.
  • Develops and tests extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes. Hands-on development experience with ETL/ELT tools, such as DBT or Informatica.
  • Maps source system data to data warehouse models.
  • Participates in Architectural strategies on the EDW migration to Cloud platform e.g., integration with Data Lake and other Azure services.
  • Works with teams to integrate data across clinical, administrative, and financial source systems including the management of critical master data.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience including continuing to innovate data architecture design and deployment, and data modelling especially dimensional data modeling (OLAP)
  • Experience with Cloud Data Warehouse platforms e.g., Snowflake, Azure Synapse
  • Experience with the Azure stack (Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Azure Databricks, Azure ML, Azure Synapse, and Azure SQL) to help build a modern platform for data that will be sourced from a variety of analytic and operational application
  • Must possess strong data modeling skills
  • Must possess experience using Erwin or similar tools for developing and maintaining data models
  • Must possess strong data analysis skills into source systems to profile source system data
  • Must have strong experience with SQL
  • Experience with SQL Server platform is preferred
  • Healthcare industry experience and Epic data experience is preferred
  • Experience with Tableau reporting tools a plus but not required
  • Experience in agile development data projects a plus but not required

  • Relational and dimensional data modeling and database design skills
  • Understands how data is used to support analytical and/or operational reporting
  • Understanding of SQL and relational and multidimensional designs
  • Flexibility, diplomacy, and problem-solving
  • Knowledge of data warehousing architectural approaches
  • Excellent consultative skills, understanding business needs and translating those needs to technical requirements and solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including senior business and clinical leaders and executives
  • Strong creative problem solving with ability to craft solutions to meet the wide range of business needs across the organization
  • Understands BI tool architecture, functions, features
  • Must have strong data modeling skills
  • Adept at establishing trusted relationships at all levels across the organization and collaborating across multi-functional teams
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to construct queries using a supported query tool

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources.
  • No direct reports; may provide guidance to less seasoned and new staff.
