CAI is seeking a mid-level Data Scientist. This is an ONSITE opportunity; this position will be 37.5 hours per week. Our client is based in Indianapolis, IN.
We are seeking a candidate who can work with agency partners and translate business needs, define data sources and build high quality data products that effectively communicate insights and analysis based on public and institutional information.
We are looking for a Data Scientist who can define, analyze, and interpret data sets to develop data driven tools that effectively communicate insights about INDOT programs. Using approved analytical tools, create and maintain high quality data products. The Data Scientist position will work with stakeholders to provide creative data driven insights that address a variety of business issues.
A successful candidate in this role will be able to build relationships with internal contacts such as agency heads, directors and managers for the purpose of planning, manage tasks, gather information, utilize problem solving, influence stakeholder engagement, motivate, present, and implement solutions.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Descriptive Reporting (40-60%): Designs, develops, and implements the high quality and effective visualization and reporting solutions for the organization.
- Assesses the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
- Identifies trends, problems, and potential solutions through data analysis and data communication products.
- Develops processes and tools to analyze data for accuracy and monitor their models for performance Statistical Analysis (5-10%): Interprets results from multiple sources using a variety of statistical techniques; builds tools that empower users with resources such regression analysis.
- Data Modeling (5-15%): Translates business needs into technical formats required to describe data models and support data architecting process by serving as a conduit between business users and the enterprise data warehouse.
- Creates predictive analysis models and means of delivering results to uses.
- General (10-20%): Works with stakeholders throughout the agency to leveraging data to drive business solutions.
- Coordinates with different functional teams to monitor outcomes and ensure adherence to project plans.
- Utilizes visualization best practices to convey information in a concise and consumable manner Logical Analysis (10- 20%): Mines and analyzes data from various sources to supply reliable insights about agency programs.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Employee is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and interpreting large data sets to be used in supplying solutions to issues and developing reports and data products.
- Code Dev (5-10%): Uses computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate and draw insights from large data sets.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to work independently, anticipate problems and initiate corrective actions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize task between a variety of projects and functions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
- Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages and drawbacks
- Ability to analyze policies and procedures and be able to recommend improvements.
- Broad knowledge of statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
- Ability to effectively document process and findings.
- Knowledge using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate and draw insights from large data sets is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on data driven solutions.
Qualifications
Highly Desired Education:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Informatics or Economics.
Required Experience:
· Work is broad in scope involving complex program elements, which require critical and analytical abilities.
· Employee receives a general outline of work and is expected to develop own methods within established policies.
· Work is diversified and involves multiple unrelated steps.
· Analytical thought is required to deal with complex data and situations.
· Capability to exercise independent judgment in formulating solutions, and in interpreting user needs and business objectives.
Highly Desirable:
· Advanced degrees or certification in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Informatics or Economics are preferred.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard and monitor.
