Position Summary
Working with the nation’s largest health care database, Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) provides analytic solutions for Blue Cross Blue Shield plans across the country. BHI’s data science team designs state of the art solutions through advanced methodologies, models, and measures. Advanced methodologies are a key differentiator for BHI’s product and analytical solutions. The incumbent will contribute to the design and development of robust analytics with practical business impact, working closely with senior analysts in a cooperative team environment.
As a Data Scientist, this role will be responsible for the development of BHI’s advanced technologies particularly to do with statistical score modeling, model development, score/model deployment, large scale database analysis and statistical algorithms. The Data Scientist is responsible for participating in the full array of predictive modeling activities at BHI, either independently or under the leadership of a Data Scientist. Conduct quantitative analyses, co-author study reports, and create innovative analytic approaches. The position will also serve as a content expert in statistical modeling techniques applied to large claims databases. Accountable for the execution of advanced analytic models, and will be responsible for technical review of research, synthesis, and dissemination of results to enable innovative products.
Job Responsibilities
- Explores, examines and interprets large volumes of data in various forms
- Present results in a clear and professional manner to members of the BHI team.
- Coordinate the development of standard definitions of measures to be used as predictors and targets in predictive model development.
- Participate in team development of efficient queries and models in a complex multi-million-member database. Assist senior analysts in evaluating results to confirm accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with client requirements.
- Analyze complex health care data to provide meaningful results and enriched analytics
- Work with senior analysts to develop statistical models using statistical tools and techniques which include, but are not limited to, logistic regression, clustering, survival analysis, and multilevel models.
- Meet all data privacy rules and ensure all work is compliant with data handling standards.
- Uses data visualization techniques to effectively communicate analytical results and support business decisions.
- Coordinate with the development team to ensure an efficient structure for analytic measures and model assets.
- Develop a clear process for measure development, from business need, through specification and documentation.
- Provide analytics and consultative support to internal customers and peers. As part of the analytical unit of the company the incumbent will assist with analytical questions from other teams within BHI in a collaborative manner, particularly development and clinical teams.
- Meet all business requirements and deadlines and communicate progress and challenges encountered to team leads.
- Performs analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve moderately complex business problems
- Contribute to the design of new analytic components for existing BHI engagements and product offerings and participate in the develop of new products and solutions.
- Develops data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data that helps generate insights and addresses reporting needs
Job Requirements
- Understands importance of adhering to SOC 2 requirements, and maintains an effort to do so
- Experience with analytic database design and application
- Master’s degree or doctorate in health care informatics, epidemiology, statistics, econometrics, or actuarial sciences.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team.
- 4+ years of analytical programming experience with an emphasis on SQL, Python, and Data Robot.
- Demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and interpret complex data sets.
- Knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources.
- Is familiar with SOC 2 compliance and its impact on company policies and processes
- Rigorous and thorough approach.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate analytic recommendations to a non-technical audience in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a health insurance plan, healthcare analytics organization, healthcare consultancy, or provider organization.
- 4+ years of experience with large health care claims databases.
- Predictive modeling experience.
- Ability to proactively initiate process improvement discussions.
