About This Role


Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Specialty Software Engineer - Data Scientist.


This position is responsible for data analytics work within the technology infrastructure environment focused on infrastructure data and services across the global footprint to include network, distributed systems, mainframe, midrange, storage, cloud-based systems, and production services.


You will play a critical role as a data scientist who applies advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple real-time decision systems, conduct advanced data analysis and highly complex design algorithms, and analyze and interpret data from various sources that directly contribute to the improvement of at-scale, enterprise infrastructure services. You must be able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure enterprise environment using Agile methodology and practices. The candidate will use previous hands-on experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data visualization, user experience design, reporting, coding, and data analytics to take on new infrastructure-based use cases and requirements to develop models as well as document requirements to manage models, aligning with operational policies and procedures, as well as follow standard IT service management practices and processes to deploy into production.


The ideal candidate will be a forward thinker, passionate technologist, and expert in modern data science techniques and tools, and must be comfortable being at the forefront of a rapidly innovative software automation landscape and have the experience to operate across the enterprise technology infrastructure through understanding of available technology, tools, and existing designs, and working on complex problems.


In This Role, You Will


  • Manage models to maintain accuracy and validity, conduct bias review, and maintain high service levels for the internal IT community.
  • Create clear results and reports that tell a compelling story to improve infrastructure services to include, but not limited to, reduce mean-time-to-recovery (MTTR), anomaly detection, proactive trending and predictive analytics to avoid impacts, pattern, standardize and automate statistical and other analysis to include adoption with service owners.
  • Contribute to the vision and high-level technical concepts spanning technology and business lines.
  • Champion and support other team members by increasing efficiency, removing blockers, escalating issues, and helping to mentor and grow fellow team members.
  • Handle risk and control requirements around the models, focusing on policies, procedures, and work standards to ensure success; re-engineering and driving continual service improvement.
  • Add business intelligence reporting capability to create actionable reports and notification tools that can be leveraged by various infrastructure teams to accurately monitor and reflect compliance / non-compliance status at the asset level.
  • Consult and collaborate with internal business partners such as product management, technical leads, systems operations, and service and support organizations that own the data and/or service.
Required Qualifications, US:


  • 4+ years of experience with machine learning tools
  • 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: securities, quants, artificial intelligence, or machine learning
  • 4+ years of experience with machine learning model development
Desired Qualifications:


  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience customizing Splunk Dashboards via the XML source
  • 4+ years of reporting experience, analytics experience or a combination of both
  • Experience with one or more Agile tools used for tracking user stories or backlogs, such as Confluence or Jira
  • Basic knowledge of industry regulations related to building technological solutions
  • 4+ years of statistical modeling experience (i.e. Logistic Regression, Machine Learning, Neural Network, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Assurance (QA) methods: unit, load, system, user acceptance, and regression
  • A professional certification in technology
  • Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning and Sprint Retrospective meetings) and Kanban
  • 4+ years of experience with design, implementation and governance experience with Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing or Machine Learning architecture
  • A Master's degree or higher in computer science or finance

Pay Range


$138,500.00 - $287,600.00 Annual
