Summary: Do you see yourself as the kind of data scientist who excels at new problems, new data sources, and building models that have real world impact? Would you like to put your skills and experience to work helping our students heal from the effects of Covid mitigation and recent trends in social media, cultural and economic factors that have contributed to the significant rise in threats of violence to self and others, reduced readiness for the workplace and citizenship?
Would you be energized to come to work every day to help our schools, families and children thrive using the latest technology and tools available? If so, please consider applying today.
Navigate360 is the leader in training, tools, and technology for schools to promote, maintain, and improve the health and educational well-being of students in over 13K K-12 institutions in the United States. In response to incidents of violence, reduced mental health and the rise of social media, many states and school districts have mandated that schools implement technology to detect and intervene with threats of violence before they are realized.
Our Machine Learning and Data Science team is hiring a part-time data science to work during the school year, part time up to 20 hours per week.
- Open to undergraduate or graduate students.
- 1 Semester – renewable for up to 3 in a school year depending on performance and quality of deliverables.
- 3 Month Summer Internships (full-time)
- Part-Time (school year) Internships: 10-30 hours / week (flexible hours based on your schedule targeting an average of 20 hours per week)
Internships will be set up to provide 2 deliverables during the semester-long program:
- Working prototype with code review and written/verbal presentation and demonstration – focused on an actual product problem, feature, or functionality that is intended to go ‘in-product’ within the subsequent 6-12 months. Partnered with an FTE as their immediate supervisor / mentor on a day-to-day basis.
- Written research paper on an emerging product or market area of interest relevant to the same product space as the working prototype or as foundational thinking for the prototype itself. This should include full references to peer-reviewed or established literature with a review of the ‘current state’ in the field, hypothesis(es) to be evaluated and conclusions / recommendations for Navigate360 or a customer segment. This paper can be provided to the school to receive credit (depending on the institution’s internship policy/program).
In addition, you will work day-to-day with an experienced data scientist or analyst to work on specific projects to help us understand the impact of interventions on students, measure performance for a new software product and features, and help develop insights that will be used by customers to help keep students and communities safe.
Relevant Undergraduate Majors: Computer Science (w/ emphasis on Data Science), Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics (quantitative concentration) or other quantitative discipline in hard sciences (Physics, etc.).
Example Projects:
- Perform an analysis on prepared dataset with data visualizations, build predictive models that provide recommendations to customers or management.
- Build an interactive analytical tool (PowerBI, Shiny, etc.) that enables analysts to drill down into a complex dataset, draw conclusions, and work with a data engineer to automate updates to the data.
- Exploratory data analysis on a new, raw dataset, documenting properties of the data, assessing data quality, and formulating and testing hypotheses, producing a prototype data pipeline design with cleansed data prepared for analysis or machine learning. Present the findings and recommendations to engineering and product teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Normal Working Hours and Conditions: Core business hours are generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on Company operations.
