Job Description
The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. Department/Program Description
Among the first departments established at Stanford University, the Department of Psychology has a long-standing tradition of ground-breaking theoretical research that has a powerful impact on the real world. The department is ranked as one of the top psychology programs in the nation and has been a leading psychology department among American universities for decades. This extraordinary achievement was honored by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., in 2003.
Position Summary
We are looking for a Data Curator to help grow a repository for sharing and analyzing scientific data at OpenNeuro.org. OpenNeuro.org is a project dedicated to the free and open sharing of a broad range of neuroscience datasets, including raw data. The Data Curator position will report to Professor Poldrack. The Data Curator will work closely with the OpenNeuro team to push forward our open and reproducible research vision. The DC will have Linux experience and a passion for working with large, complex datasets using high-performance computing systems. The work will be performed in a dynamic environment, working directly with research scientists to curate and process data submitted to the database. Challenges will include dealing with unusual datasets and unique experimental designs and accurately representing them using the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) framework. S/he should be comfortable working with people and have strong communication skills. The Data Curator’s work will directly influence the availability of neuroscience data, which will lead to a better understanding of how the brain works and how to characterize and treat brain disorders. This is a new full-time position in Prof. Russ Poldrack’s lab with a one-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of renewal.
This is a 100% FTE, 1- year fixed-term exempt position.

Core Duties
  • Devise methods for identifying data patterns and trends in available information sources using various qualitative and quantitative techniques. Determine and recommend additional data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.
  • Create non-routine databases and their related information summary; develop algorithms and statistical models; and perform statistical analyses appropriate to complex data and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys.
  • Design and customize reports based on data in the database.
  • Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs, and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information. Distribute and disseminate reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management, and other internal end-users.
  • May test prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience using and applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible, and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Basic statistical ability.
  • Ability to lead on projects and with users/clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce data clearly and understandably, meeting user requirements.
  • Ability to work with data of varying levels of quality and validity.
  • Expert ability to collect data using various methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.

This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the successful candidate’s location. The expected pay range for this position is $72,000 to $126,000 per annum. [1]
