Data Center Engineer Jobs

SUMMARY

The Engineer I is an entry level position that provides data center services for internal and external customers. The individual will understand and implement data-center-based solutions to include all hardware devices for RealPage data centers. The engineer will be responsible for the daily management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of RealPage data centers. In addition, the Engineer will regularly interact and work directly with all RealPage teams to troubleshoot hardware level issues, discuss architecture, present possible solutions and enhancements, and implementation of agreed upon solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• In / Out Bound Package tracking and shipments.
• Work with Vendors: Dell, HP, Cisco, other for DC Installs / Server / Device / Cabinet / Troubleshooting via vendor based ticketing systems.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues to Resolve and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Work in Company based ticket system work-flow: open / close with metrics applied.
• Project work with Internal / External teams for DC Installations – detailed approach direction and implementation reporting.
• Data Center (DC) based Hardware Installation.
• Troubleshoot / Trace cable run issues to resolve.
• Hardware Label and Cable: SAN / FCOE / Copper to TOR / CORE / Device.
• Inventory Tracking and Auditing.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Installation of Hardware and the cable of hardware to Core or TOR devices.
• Determine operational weaknesses within the existing DC and present concerns in a timely fashion.
• Interact with other teams to provide escalation support during outages and customer issues even if the problem might not be directly related to the DC infrastructure.
• Actively monitor and react to real-time DC events and make recommendations on improving monitoring and reporting.
• Interact directly with technical and non-technical customers/vendors to resolve incidents and manage project tasks.
• Maintain existing Healthy Data Center (DC) and ensure properly run DC protocols are followed.
• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routing Device Hardware: Dell, HP, Cisco, and other.
• Evaluate and identify opportunities to improve the performance of existing DC environments.
• Monitor all Vendor Tickets and work until issues are resolved, parts sent, parts returned in trackable manner.
• Troubleshoot and resolve of any hardware issues / break-fixes / or other issues / problems.
• Work to completion all projects assigned to the engineer and exhaust all possible resources in order to provide results on time.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work as a member of a cross functional team.
• Must have ability to effectively communicate with clients, management, and peers.
• 2+ years Data Center Work.
• Ability to work an on-call rotation
• 2+ years Cable and Hardware installation experience.
• 2+ years of hands-on expertise with Dell and HPE servers.
• Ability to document solutions with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• ESXi Host install and Configuration abilities.
• DNS and A Record creation, use, and testing knowledge.
• Hands on experience with Dell and HPE.
• Experience with Windows / Linux / ESXi.
• Positive attitude with a love of learning new technology. #LI-JL1
