The Data Analyst for the Student Success Research Lab is responsible for preparing and executing statistical models that help identify challenges to student success, inform potential policy solutions, assess impact on student academic engagement and outcomes, and facilitate systemic improvement. The Data Analyst leverages an understanding of college student success issues, report writing tools, programming skills, databases, and statistical analysis in order to consume and interpret data sets. Tasks include pulling, cleaning, and interpreting data from multiple sources; developing descriptive and inferential models to explore past and current patterns of student admission, enrollment, retention, and graduation; estimating the impact of selected policies or programs on these outcomes; and assisting with the preparation of memos, presentations, or reports that communicate insights and fuel strategic decision-making.


The Data Analyst reports to the Assistant Vice-Provost for the Student Success Research Lab (SSRL: ssrl.osu.edu), which is located within Student Academic Excellence (SAE: sae.osu.edu). SSRL collaborates with and advises offices within Student Academic Excellence to support program assessment and strategic planning processes; conducts scholarly research; connects Ohio State faculty researchers to the student success agenda; and disseminates Ohio State student success work nationally.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a resume or curriculum vitae including a listing of relevant coursework or experience, and a professional writing sample (such as a memo or report) that summarizes or synthesizes qualitative or quantitative data related to educational or social services, programs, or coursework.


Required Experience


Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 2 years of experience in pulling and analyzing complex datasets. Proficiency with writing code/syntax in SAS, SPSS, R, Python, SQL, or a similar program. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.


Desired Experience


Master's degree or advanced graduate-level training in education, the social sciences, or data analytics. 2-4 years of experience relevant to essential duties listed. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Demonstrated interest in higher education student success. Track record of delivering high-quality work under deadline. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a multicultural environment. Strong written communication skills.


Additional Information


The pay range for this job profile is $58,100 - $77,400. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
