The Iowa State University Athletics Department is seeking applicants for a part-time Custodian I to assist the facilities team in providing high-quality cleaning services. The successful candidates will be detail and quality focused, reliable, able to communicate well, able to work independently, and courteous to patrons, students and coworkers.

The position will support all Athletics' facilities as needed, but initially work primarily in Scheman and Fisher Theatre. This position is eligible for ISU benefits.

Schedule

Tuesday-Saturday, 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

20 hours/week.

Some variance in schedule will occur due to events hosted by the department. Typically a schedule change is communicated 4 weeks in advance.

New employees successfully hired December 2nd, 2022, through December 31, 2023, will be eligible for a recruitment incentive payment after successfully completing the probationary period.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning in all assigned areas.

• Performs cleaning of all floor areas such as vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.

• Cleans and polishes all bathroom, locker room and dressing room fixtures.

• Cleans and washes all glass surfaces, ceilings and walls.

• Dusts offices.

• Refills holder of disposable items.

• Cleans and disinfects floors, furniture, equipment and areas.

• Collects trash throughout the interior and exterior of buildings and empties it into various areas.

• Assists in moving equipment and furniture.

• Operates high pressure, water-cleaning apparatus to clean and disinfect rug runners, showers, bathrooms.

• Maintains inventory of supplies, and keeps and prepares records and reports as directed.

• The use of a ladder may be required on occasion.

• Report breakage, repair needs, supply needs, and schedules to Clerk II and Supervisor.

• Other related cleaning services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and characteristics of surfaces to be cleaned, and equipment and supplies required.

• Ability to move furniture and objects in preparation for cleaning; to load and unload trash receptacles; to operate safely and properly care for power machinery; to use arm muscles in hand cleaning, mopping, and scrubbing for protracted periods of time; to work on ladders.

• Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques and ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.

• Ability to work in a variety of environments including crowded public areas and high and low temperature areas.

• Knowledge of the safe use if chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation.

• Ability to communicate effectively with others.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
