**This incoming Curator MUST have experience with marine mammals, birds, and aquariums (all three)**


Summary


The Curator is primarily responsible for maintaining the parks high standard of animal care, exhibits, husbandry and animal training. This individual will oversee important wildlife conservation programs and work with the appropriate federal and state agencies involved with the oversight of the park and its animal collection.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of regulations pertaining to the park’s animal collection and a strong relationship with all government and regulatory agencies involved in the oversight of the park’s animals and their habitats.
  • Maintaining a close relationship with the Veterinarian is essential. Proper preventative health and treatment procedures must be developed and implemented. Breeding programs must be managed to ensure the long-term propagation of species and their genetic viability.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a team that consists of dedicated animal care professionals that are committed to the park, our guests, the department and our animals and accomplish this by providing strong leadership and direction.
  • Together with the Aquatics Managers, Supervisors and Veterinarian, the Curator is responsible for oversight of the creation, implementation and operation of our animal shows, presentations and interaction programs. Behavioral enrichment programs must be maintained for the animals in the collection, helping to create an environment that is physically and mentally stimulating for the animals.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Leadership Team, Aquatics Managers and Supervisors and Veterinarian in order to stay informed on the animals, training team and animal training departments.
  • Assist the Education Manager with the educational message delivered to our guests through the numerous vehicles within the park
  • Assist with the concept development and new animal exhibits within the park and manages exhibit construction, improvements and maintenance.
  • As custodian of all the animals within the collection, the Curator acquires animals, maintains existing animal collections and helps create appropriate displays.
  • Work together with the Aquatics Managers, Supervisors and Veterinarians to develop and manage protocols and systems that ensure the health and well-being of the animal collection and work with this team to maintain a safe and welcoming workplace for our employees while ensuring all protocols and procedures are followed.
  • Work with Park management and the Public Relations counsel to develop animal related messaging and, when needed, serve as a park spokesperson for media on animal-related issues.
  • Manage labor, department expenses and other administrative responsibilities to ensure the financial success of the park.


Work closely with other Park Managers within the Park to ensure that we have a safe, fun, entertaining and educational product for our guests.


Qualifications


  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a zoological or marine park setting
  • Must demonstrate leadership in staff development and animal management
  • Must possess a degree in zoological, biological science, or similar field
  • Experience working with marine mammals, birds, and aquariums is required (all three needed)
  • Must have excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
