Job Description

Akkodis is partnering with a healthcare client in Central California who is looking for a temporary Cultural & Linguistics Specialist for a temporary contract through at least September 30th, with possible extensions. This will be a 100% remote role, Monday – Friday.


This person will be responsible for assisting with the planning, developing and implementing of member and provider C&L programs and services consistent with state and departmental objectives and applicable regulations. Work is varied and moderately complex and requires a moderate degree of discretion and independent judgment


The Terms:

  • Temporary contract through September 30, 2023, with probably extension
  • $25-$30/hr W2
  • Must use own equipment (laptop or PC) for the first 30-days
  • 100% Remote (PST working hours)

The Qualifications:

  • 1+ year experience working with diverse populations
  • 1+ year experience in cultural & linguistics program development and implementation or government, health or community programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English)
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Linguistics, Public Health, Health Science, or closely related field
  • Healthcare or health plan experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Managed care experience.
  • Master’s degree with a major in Linguistics, Public Health, Health Science or closely related field.
  • Experience in health education activities for Medi-Cal or other state-sponsored programs (WIC, CalFresh, et al).
  • CHLA Interpreter Competency Assessment or CCHI and ATA Certification


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of community collaboration and outreach in HPSJ service areas.
  • May be required to interpret for patients representing the full range of developmental and educational levels.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant health care industry developments, trends, best practices and resources, and needs of various target groups.
  • Produces the appropriate amount of work.

  • Ability to read, understand and apply complex written guidelines, instructions and other materials.

Day-to-Day:

· Assists in the development of C&L programs to reduce disparities and help improve access and health outcomes in targeted populations based on geographic, cultural, and linguistic data.

· Coordinates, implements and evaluates health disparities focused projects.

· Participates in community partnerships with local county health departments, community-based organizations, advocacy groups, committees and coalitions

· Represents and articulates service area needs to C&L management

· Develops goals, outcomes and objectives for various Committees along with C&L Manager.

· Proactively identify areas of improvement for the department and participates in development of improvement plans and makes recommendations to C&L management

· Develops strategies and policies to deliver C&L services and maintain compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations and perform QA and submit required reports

· Liaison between HPS business departments, community coalitions, State and local regulators, vendors, accrediting bodies and leadership to increase knowledge of new C&L standards and ensure contract requirements, goals and regulatory are met

· Organizes special C&L events and activities.

· Writes and submits weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as required.

· Research and maintain new C&L resources and information including new regulations and mandates

· Partners with C&L Manager and the community to design, implement, and evaluate policies, practices, and services to ensure cultural and linguistic appropriateness.

· Works with Grievances and Appeals department to ensure member grievance resolution processes are culturally and linguistically appropriate to identify, prevent, and resolve conflicts or complaints.

· Assists C&L Manager to develop, monitor and report on the effectiveness of C&L activities; takes actions based on results.

· Promotes and maintains an environment that supports strategy, vision, mission and values.
