Teaching Assistant (Online)

International Partnership, Summer Live Online, 2-Week Courses, Grades 5-12

Fully Remote Position

Summer 2-week online courses offer students the opportunity to engage with like-minded peers on a topic of interest over two consecutive weeks during live, synchronous online sessions. Course content is one to two years above grade level to meet the needs of CTD’s academically talented student population. Courses are paced to allow for alternating periods talking, listening and hands-on activity, as well as individual work and group work.

Teaching Assistants work closely with instructors to provide safe, challenging, and differentiated experiences in the live online classroom. They supervise students during independent tasks, small group projects, and whole group instruction, and monitor digital communications & resources posted through the CTD learning management system, Schoology, and during the live online classes.

23- 24 Academic year opportunities may also subsequently be available.

Hourly Pay

  • $16 per hour (3 hours class time per day, 1 “office hour”, 1 + additional hours of grading, prep, per day as needed)

Course Dates & Times

Sunday – Thursday, July 23 to August 3

7 – 11 p.m. CST

“Office hour” immediately after class.

  • Introduction to Oncology (10 -12)
  • Bubbles and Crashes: Intro to Economics (7 – 9)
  • Microeconomics Seminar (10-12)
  • Astrophysics Seminar (10-12)
  • Neuroscience Seminar (10-12)
  • Machine Learning Seminar (10-12)

Training:

  • One or more live, brief virtual training sessions will be required before the session.

Qualifications

  • Current or past enrollment in a college undergraduate (or higher) degree program required.
  • Previous experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or online setting preferred.
  • Experience working with Schoology or a similar LMS (Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.) preferred

General Responsibilities

  • Supervise student breakout groups and assist them with transition times.
  • Document student participation and progress toward learning outcomes.
  • Learn and implement CTD policies and procedures.
  • Instructor, including attendance at training session.
  • Provide instructional support in collaboration with Instructor, including small group facilitation and individual support.
  • Assist with student tech issues and provide one-on-one support as appropriate in separate digital spaces with students
  • Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.
  • Assume program-related responsibilities as requested by Program Coordinator and/or
  • Follow CTD rules and regulations concerning staff conduct and appropriate dress.
