Job Description
Salary Range: $19.57 - $25.48 hourly


Job Summary


This position will perform responsible and varied legal clerical work in the Municipal Court system, which involves considerable public contact work, processing, filing and reporting of case file information from public and law enforcement agencies in accordance with strict Court policies. The position will require great attention to detail and accuracy.


Experience, Knowledge, Skills


  • Spanish speaker desired.
  • One or more years increasingly responsible administrative support experience including bookkeeping/cash handling experience.
  • Intermediate-level computer skills (spreadsheet, word processing, and database software).
  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent data entry skills and proficient typing skills.
  • Legal, law enforcement, or court related experience or knowledge is desired.
  • Experience working with public and high degree of customer services skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.


Essential Functions


  • Answers phones and directs calls to appropriate departments.
  • Maintains, monitors and disseminates information relating to complaints. Provides for the timely and accurate processing of complaints by using computer systems, manual documentation, and verbal and written communication following established court procedures.
  • Receives and processes payments for fees, fines and warrants; records payments; updates databases to reflect payments; issues receipts; manages and reconciles a cash drawer on a daily basis.
  • Processes court documents to assure proper filing, distribution and required actions by assigning codes, determining the type of violation, determining the type of document and corresponding following established procedures for processing.
  • Maintains and monitors the court calendar and cases to provide an established schedule of cases used to inform all participants and to assure timely hearing dates; assists walk-in customers, attorneys, defendants, and the general public; provides information, explains procedures, research information using manual and computerized filing systems regarding case status and scheduling.
  • Maintains a court record-keeping system that includes heavy data entry input, updating and filing of records and documents, reconciling and merging dockets. Deliver files to various destinations.
  • Multitasking: the ability to divide attention appropriately.


Work Environment And Physical Requirements


  • Heavy public contact in person and by telephone.
  • Extended periods of time at a fixed workstation, walking or standing.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Remain in a sitting, standing or walking position for extended period of time.
  • Communication skills sufficient to convey information via telephone and in person.
  • Inflexible deadlines.
  • Communication skills to interface with other departments and agencies.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately input, retrieve and verify work assignments via computer workstation, perform filing tasks, and to complete paperwork.
  • Vision sufficient to interpret computer screens and documents to complete work assignments.
