Job Description
Job Responsibilities


The department head is responsible for teaching courses, designing and developing curricula, evaluating student performance, advising students, and managing and evaluating cosmetology employees. Additionally, the department head will manage departmental budgets, submit student records to the SC Board of Cosmetology/Division of Labor Licensing, and Regulation (LLR), and ensure LLR regulations are implemented, and that facilities and instruction meet LLR standards. Additional responsibilities are to assist the dean with program development, personnel issues, and equipment.


  • Resolving student complaints and grievances within the department.
  • Screening and recommending full-time faculty and staff for employment; managing the evaluation system for the department in an effective manner; and ensuring timely hiring, supervision, management, and evaluation of part-time faculty.
  • Developing, implementing, managing, assessing, and revising initiatives for improved student learning and academic success in cosmetology programs.
  • Managing department resources, including budget preparation and department inventory; approving operational and personnel expenditures.
  • Assuming responsibility for the development, consolidation, accuracy, and distribution of the department’s course schedule.
  • Developing, assessing, and revising curriculum on regular basis to meet the needs of students and the community.
  • Advising students.
Minimum and Additional Requirements


This position requires a high school diploma, South Carolina cosmetology license and cosmetology instructor's license, formal training in Cosmetology, and a minimum of three (3) years of cosmetology industry-related experience.
