Job Description

Copy Editor for Management Journal

- Remote

Join a team of editors and production staff to help develop and publish management and business content such as articles, white papers, interviews and video transcripts.

Responsibilities:

• Provide highly specialized editorial oversight for a large and diverse suite of editorial products, encompassing clientele-development papers, Insights articles, reports, industry publications.

• Support the copy chief in staying on top of a high-volume, occasionally unpredictable article pipeline.

• Work closely with the copy chief, other members of the copy desk, and the production team to identify practice-publishing priorities and meet tight deadline requirements.

Required knowledge and skills:

• Is committed to the practice of copy editing; enjoys the fine detail of the work.

• Is able to line-edit an article when called upon, making dense prose clearer and more elegant.

• Can copy edit PowerPoint exhibits that accompany an article, improving the presentation of data as needed, including working with graphic designers .

• Can confidently and tactfully engage with senior production and editorial staff and subject-matter experts.

• Is comfortable with your suggested editorial changes not always being embraced by an editor or article author .

• Has exceptional organizational skills; can handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage complex processes, and meet both short-term and long-term deadlines.

• Can work independently in a low-structure environment; is comfortable with ambiguity but also proactively seeks guidance when appropriate.

• Has strong editorial judgment; can rapidly absorb complex ideas.

• Has a positive attitude and team orientation.

Desired Experience:

• Degree required; advanced degree a plus.

• Three to seven years’ experience in print and/or digital publishing, preferably at a business publication or firm.

• Fluency in the major editorial style guides, such as the Chicago Manual of Style, and general grammar usage.

• Fluency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Outlook (for email and calendar); Slack (for instant messaging); Zoom and/or WebEx (for videoconferencing); understanding of content-management systems and databases.

• Outstanding copy editing and proofreading abilities complemented by strong interpersonal and communication skills; excellent organizational and project-management skills; ability to quickly master production processes and adapt to changes to them; critical eye for presenting data; strong understanding of global business trends; digital-media skills.
