About the Office:
Gracie Mansion, also known as New York’s “People’s House” has served as the official residence of the
Mayor of New York City since 1942 when Fiorello H. La Guardia first lived in the structure. Gracie
Mansion’s history dates to 1799, when it was constructed by New York merchant named Archibald
Gracie. In addition to serving as the official residence of the mayor and his family, Gracie Mansion is also
the site of numerous mayoral events and functions.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Senior Executive Chef, the Cook is an integral part of the culinary team. The Cook will
prepare high quality plant forward food for indoor, outdoor and catered events for the Mayor and his
guests. The position requires professionalism, communication, a strong work ethic, commitment to
excellence, desire to learn, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently. Some of the key duties
and responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of all cooking techniques with an emphasis on plant forward cooking.
  • Prepare mise en place, cook and assemble dishes.
  • Maintain and strictly abide by state and city sanitation/health regulations.
  • Receive, organize, inventory supplies and ingredients.
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness and organization of kitchen equipment, storage and refrigeration
areas.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, small appliances and
dishwasher.
  • Occasionally serve food.
  • Promote teamwork and excellence amongst the kitchen team.
  • Executes special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Special working conditions cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend
work, shift work and working outdoors. You are frequently exposed to hot water, varied
temperatures, potentially slippery floors and cleaning chemicals.

Qualifications:
• Education/Experience – High School Diploma, New York City Food Handler Certificate and at least

one year of on the job cooking experience.

  • Skills
o Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools and execute techniques.
o Intermediate to advanced knife skills- chopping, slicing, cutting, julienne and dicing.
o Exceptional attention to detail; strong organizational and time management skills


o Stand or walk for at least 8 hours and lift at least 50 pounds.
o Able to prioritize tasks, learn quickly and adapt to changes in a fast paced and high energy

environment.
o Ability to work independently and in a team; must exemplify willingness to be solution

oriented.
o An interpreter, the candidate must have the ability to understand verbal and non-verbal

communication.

  • Language – Proficient in English knowledge of Spanish a plus


Salary Range:
$58,000 - $60,000
