Job Description
The Neville Center at Fresh Pond is a Five Star, Joint Commission, American Healthcare Association Silver Medal Award-winning, short-term rehab, long term, and skilled nursing care community. We are conveniently located in the Cambridge by the beautiful Fresh Pond Parkway. We are actively recruiting an experienced, highly skilled Cook. Job Responsibilities Of The Cook


  • Ensures that dietary staff delivers and retrieves food trucks and trays in a timely fashion so that resident units are clean and uncluttered.
  • Attends in-service education programs as assigned and applies this knowledge to job.
  • Maintains food service workspaces in clean and safe condition at all times according to center procedures. Cleans workspaces and cooking and serving equipment according to department procedures.
  • Prepares a la carte menu items for residents whenever required.
  • Substitutes menu items after consultation with the Registered Dietitian.
  • Prepares special holiday meals based on recipes approved by the Registered Dietitian.
  • Prepares foods, including altered textures and therapeutic diets, which correspond to the menu cycles developed and monitored by the Registered Dietitian.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead a team to accomplish tasks assigned in the most efficient and productive manor possible.
  • Handles, prepares, and stores all food according to center procedures and safe food handling guidelines.
  • Manages time efficiently to ensure that meals arrive on the units within ten minutes of the posted meal times.
  • Cooks and serves foods at the proper temperatures and within the appropriate time frames.
  • Assists the Dietary Manager with preparation for regulatory inspection.
  • Follows the established menus utilizing standardized recipes.
  • Uses equipment in a safe manor to prevent injury of self or others in accordance to manufactures, and/or supervisors’ directions.
  • Supervises dishwashing to ensure that dishes, pots, pans, cups, trays, and utensils are clean, sanitized, and dried.
  • Utilizes food supplies in an efficient and economic manner to prevent waste.
  • Communicates with nursing and other departments throughout shift to maximize resident satisfaction.
  • Prepares appealing meal alternates at every meal to accommodate resident preference.


Qualifications Of The Cook


  • Demonstrates the ability to read, write and speak English and is able to communicate with others in English. Other languages are a plus but not required.
  • One-year experience as a cook in an institutional food service, healthcare or hospital setting preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • ServSafe Certification preferred or eligibility to become certified.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
