Join a team that is responsible for executing Viant’s cost saving, process improvement, and product development objectives using sound engineering principles for all metal tube and tube fabrication processes. Your fresh perspective and out-of-the-box thinking is needed to improve unique manufacturing processes on custom equipment and develop new products across medical, aerospace, and industrial markets.


Purpose: We produce medical devices that save and enhance lives! The Collegeville site plays a critical role in the medical device industry. 50% of all metal tubes used for surgeries in the United States comes from the Collegeville site. In addition to serving the medical device industry, we also support emerging technologies in aerospace and industrial tube applications.

Position Scope/Summary: The Controls Engineer is an integral part of the Engineering Department. This person is responsible to develop and implement improvements that include but not limited to: equipment reliability, operator skills technician skills, maintenance, and process optimizations. This person works to improve production and quality. This position requires a strong commitment to safety. Provide technical support and leadership to tube mill operations. Uses accepted principles to gather evidence, conduct experiments, analyze results, and implement innovative solutions to manufacturing and customer-related technical issues. Engineer is a central source for addressing concerns and problems of a technical nature.


Position Requirements


  • Electrical design/engineering, from concept, new machines and work cells including: PC/PLC software applications, hardware applications and machine software, including detailed flow diagrams and circuit diagrams for serial production.
  • Engineering of software and electrical applications for defined safety, quality, productivity and cost savings projects, process changes and process improvements.
  • Use good project planning principles to develop task completion dates for equipment installation, cost saving opportunities, and process improvements and then execute to that plan.
  • Support installation and operational qualifications (IQ and OQ) for new equipment and/or processes. Support the development and execution of master validation plans and product/process validations (PQ).
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions that support business goals.
  • Use interactions with internal and external customers to anticipate problems and implement process/product improvements.
  • Provide leadership to less experienced associates.
  • Research, plan, and execute actions to solve complex problems. Lead the application of SPC, six sigma and lean principles, statistical methods, and design of experiments to identify and eliminate process inefficiencies and nonconformances.
  • Design/engineer/maintenance of PLC standard software components and functions.
  • Provide diversified range of technical services to both internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company goals.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Design, write, document, implement/debug new software on multiple language platforms (Beckhoff, Siemens S5/S7/TIA, Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, various robotics and machine vision platforms.
  • Create, revise and approve electrical system drawings, schematics, of equipment and processes.


Environmental Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Qualifications


  • Ability to communicate (both written and oral) complex topics to persons not familiar with the subject matter.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Ability to work and be hands-on in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or similar)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
