The Controller’s primary responsibility is to manage the accounting team functions and participate in financial planning and analytics. These responsibilities include the monthly close, payroll, and accounts receivable and accounts payable processes. This position works closely with multiple departments, and is responsible for ensuring accurate recording of entries, assisting with the financial planning and analysis function, and ensuring appropriate controls and processes are in place. Other duties include analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis, assisting with financial and tax audits, aiding with tax return preparations and other internal reporting as assigned by the CFO.


Requirements


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develops and ensures team adheres to a closing process and closing timeline.
  • Complies with all US GAAP and other regulatory standards.
  • Works with CFO on Financial Planning and Analysis.
  • Maintains general ledger and sub ledgers.
  • Mentors and develops the team to grow in their careers, giving opportunities to take on new challenges.
  • Understanding of revenue recognition including revenue recognized at a point of time and revenue recognized over time.
  • Works with team to prepare and create asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Be present in-office at least 60% of the work week. Home office opportunities may be available up to 40% of the position’s schedule.
  • Evaluates talent and makes hiring decisions.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Works with team to maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions, resolving discrepancies.
  • Keeps key information confidential.
  • Takes the lead in implementing new accounting standards and accounting for complex transactions such as acquisitions.
  • Contributes to the organization’s mission statement and goals by providing the highest quality of service, treating each person professionally.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Proactively focuses on efficiency and seeks out process improvements through both automation and tweaking existing processes.

Desired Skills And Abilities


  • Knowledge of NetSuite.
  • Knowledge of Workday Adaptive Planning.
  • Familiarity with E-rate rules and USAC procedures.
  • Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with telecommunication taxes and/or fees and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Understands the financial planning and analysis process and contributes to the budgeting and analytics processes.


Education And Experience


  • Four-year degree with emphasis in accounting.
  • Minimum 8 years of accounting experience in a professional office environment.


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations


  • CPA.


Supervisory Responsibilities


Manages the payroll and accounting teams, including all Clerks, Staff Accountants, Senior Accountants, Accounting Manager, and Payroll employees.


Travel


No travel is expected except for possible team building and continuing education opportunities.
