IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Remote Operations Center (ROC) Control Room Operator Technician - $48-$50/hr. Our Remote Operations Center is located at the IHI Power Services Corporate Office in Aliso Viejo, CA.

Job Summary

The ROC Control Room Operator Technician is responsible for starting, stopping, and monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. The CRO responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required. The CRO assures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe, efficient manner and in accordance with all regulatory requirements.


Job Functions

  • Operate control panels to regulate the load on the HRSG and turbines and to maintain proper steam temperature and pressure, feedwater and fuel supply and efficient combustion conditions.
  • Perform emergency operations to maintain electric service and safeguard station equipment.
  • Dispatch on call resources assigned to locations upon remote starts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Receive and respond to electrical, steam and fuel dispatcher's orders and requests.
  • Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Operations Supervisor. Make entries in the Operating Log.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • The CRO operates from established and well-known procedures under general directions and minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The CRO encounters recurring work situations of high complexity with occasional variations from the norm.
  • All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.
  • The CRO must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The CRO must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost benefit ratio.
  • Remotely start, stop, and monitor plant and pant processes across the United States from our Corporate Office in Aliso Viejo, CA.
  • The CRO has the authority to control the operation of the plant and must do so in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times.

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of two year of experience as a Control Room Operator or equivalent position in an operating or generating plant required.
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • Must successfully complete the Remote Operating Center CRO qualification card.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of HMIs and SCADAs.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Work location is primarily indoors.
