Contributing Writer - Film & Tv

If you are into all things creepy this writing position may be for you. This opportunity is for an unpaid remote candidate looking to join our site as a contributing writer. Downright Creepy is a passion project that we want to share with other like minded horror fans.

Downright Creepy is looking for volunteer contributing writers for the Fall season to assist with news articles, and genre (horror / sci-fi) editorials.

Our ideal candidate will have writing samples of entertainment focused pieces or bylines from existing sites to share - but it is not necessary to apply.

You will have the opportunity to review advanced screeners of films and TV series from such studios as IFC Films, Shudder, Netflix, discovery+ and much more. Our primary need is for news and editorial articles.

Requirements:

- Love horror and sci-fi genres

- Must have 2-3 samples of articles or reviews (500+ words)

- Willing to write 2 articles and or reviews per week

- Team communication takes place on Slack

- Available Monday - Friday (8-10 hours per week)

Nice to have:

- Social media experience

- Podcasting skills (record remotely)

About Downright Creepy

Established in 2009 Downright Creepy is looking to expand its writing staff of contributors this Fall.

In 2013 we co-founded Panic Fest - a genre film fest based in Kansas City, MO. It has been named one of the best genre fest in the world by MovieMaker Magazine in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and by Dread Central in 2020. Our most notable premiere was the original What We Do in the Shadows film and since then we have screened over 700+ films as an extension of Downright Creepy. Panic Fest takes place the last weekend of January in Kansas City, MO. Our interns will be given full access to the fest after their internship is complete. This includes an in person or remote full festival pass.
