Job Overview
The position is responsible for construction safety and quality control (safety inspector) on GU construction projects. The position provides expertise and technical capability in the areas of safety program implementation, construction hazard identification and mitigation. Additionally, the position will assist in the implementation of contractors Quality Control Program. The incumbent provides expertise, knowledge, and skills in construction job site safety. The incumbent will visit and inspect GU construction projects evaluating and assessing for safety compliance with OSHA and GU standards. The incumbent will work with GU contractors to identify and mitigate safety deficiencies at site. The candidate will also act as a Quality Control Manager on certain projects, monitoring the contractors’ QC plan and the plans implementation. This includes Review of QC/ QA plans submitted by contractors, jobsite inspections of materials, methods and testing by outside entities.
This position will also manage the Personal Protective Equipment Program for the Planning and Facilities Management and will work closely with contractors, project managers and EHS Compliance specialist to submit and comply with DOEE stormwater management requirements.
Work Interactions
The incumbent reports directly to the Fire Marshal and Occupational Safety Manager, for assignments, work direction, and administrative supervision. Provides advisory services for safety plans and QC plans. Provides advice and assistance in the resolution of difficult safety construction conditions and issues. Works closely with project managers to determine deficiencies in the completed/ongoing work.
Works with the Fire Marshal and Occupational Safety manager to Develop and implement programs to reduce accident trends. Develops and manages a worksite inspection program, including safety and performs occupational health and safety inspections of all construction projects on GU campuses, including Main campus, Medical, Law and Downtown. Additionally, as QC/QA inspector evaluates contractors’ QC plan, and its implementation and monitors contractors’ administration of said plan. Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Practical Experience: Requires one to three years of progressively responsible experience in an Occupational Safety position, preferably supporting a campus environment.
  • Other Skills: General office computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and experience with web-based reporting tool is preferred.
  • Academic Level: Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
Incumbent is required to carry a smartphone and respond to inquiries as needed (including off-hours if emergencies arise).

  • OSHA construction 30-hour certification
  • Experience working with higher education institutions is preferred.
  • CHST Construction Health and Safety Tech
  • Five or more years of experience preferred
