Job Title: Construction Estimator (Utility Construction)

We are seeking a talented and experienced Construction Estimator with a strong background in estimating utility construction projects. As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately and competitively estimating the costs of utility construction projects, including underground utilities, pipelines, and infrastructure. Your role will involve analyzing project requirements, conducting take-offs, obtaining subcontractor and supplier bids, and preparing detailed and comprehensive cost estimates. If you possess excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of utility construction processes, we invite you to join our team.


Responsibilities:


Project Cost Estimation:


  • Conduct quantity take-offs and prepare accurate cost estimates for utility construction activities.
  • Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs to determine project pricing.
  • Utilize historical cost data and industry benchmarks to develop competitive cost estimates.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project requirements.


Subcontractor and Supplier Management:


  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers for specific project components.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and availability of materials and services.
  • Prepare and submit subcontractor and supplier bid packages for project pricing.
  • Maintain accurate records of subcontractor and supplier bids, quotes, and qualifications.


Bid Proposal Preparation:


  • Ensure bid proposals are accurate, comprehensive, and meet project specifications and requirements.
  • Prepare detailed bid proposals that include cost breakdowns, project schedules, and technical information.
  • Review and analyze bid documents and contract terms to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to finalize bid proposals.


Value Engineering:


  • Collaborate with project teams to develop innovative and efficient construction methods and alternatives.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering during the estimating process.
  • Evaluate and recommend value engineering proposals to optimize project costs and improve project outcomes.


Documentation and Reporting:


  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of estimating activities, including bid files and correspondence.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports on cost estimates, bid results, and market trends.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support post-bid activities, such as bid clarifications and negotiations.


Requirements:


  • Familiarity with construction contracts, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, HCSS, PlanSwift).
  • Strong knowledge of utility construction processes, materials, and costs.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in estimating and cost analysis.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience as a Construction Estimator in utility construction projects.
