General Purpose:

The foremen are first line supervisors responsible for assigning, following up and verifying that the tasks assigned to carpenters and laborers are successfully completed. A foreman must have, or be able to develop, solid rapport and communication with both craft workers and supervisors. They must lead by example, and have outstanding skills and trade knowledge.

Duties:

• Responsible for tracking and maintaining the Saunders Construction, Inc. tools and equipment.
• May be subject to overtime on an as needed basis
• Foremen are the first line of defense to enforce company safety practices. A foreman can recognize and correct hazards, including acting as the competent person , and shutting down imminent hazard work operations.
• Review the quality of the workmanship and monitor the morale and attitude of the crew.
• Check time cards for accurate hours and attendance.
• Perform daily pre-task meetings with the crew, to ensure that safe work practices and procedures are identified within the scope of the crew s work assignment.
• General instruction and periodic review to journeymen and apprentices.
• Interface with and answer questions from subcontractors.
• Ensure new employees are orientated to the job site for safety requirements, location of tools, and special or unique Saunders work requirements.
• Ability to recognize material/tool/equipment needs based on upcoming activities.
• Knowledge of basic concrete form systems and their use.
• Must have the ability to resolve problems with appropriate and timely decisions.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Address and document performance issues.
• Interface with the superintendent to carry out tasks and work orders.
• Development of material needs from drawing take offs and layout work. This can include determining the amount of concrete for a slab pour or a caisson to the amount of lumber needed for backing and bracing.
• Sets production goals for the crew and monitors performance.
• Ability to read plans and specifications.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience

• Strong scheduling, quality, safety and field management experience.
• At minimum, a journeyman carpenter status as defined by Saunders Construction, Inc. or equivalent field experience.
