About the Role

About The Role

In Global Electives, students in grades 6-12 across Avenues global campuses broadly explore their interests as well as pursue advanced coursework in a particular area of study. The program offers students significant flexibility in their pace of learning, range of interests, and required synchronous time. Elective options serve the entire global community, bringing together students with similar interests and passions.

What You Will Do

• Ensure students achieve key learning outcomes and target instruction to address individual student needs
• Contribute to the broader community of our global network; participate in ongoing professional learning within Global Electives
• Lead one-on-one tutoring sessions and coach/facilitate collaborative lab sessions to support students through project-based integrated science curricula
• Collaborate with other faculty and deans; practice cultural competence in both student and adult spaces
• Co-construct with students an environment that establishes high standards, fosters a sense of belonging, and upholds our values of welcome, safety, and respect
• Lead and support in-person learning experiences for Avenues students to come together from around the world
• Utilize all resources available to encourage the success of each student by considering engagement with the coursework, quality of contribution in lab sessions, preparation of individual work
• Inspire trust and confidence among families through regular, proactive communication
• Serve as lead instructor for current Upper Division students (grades 6-12) located around the world; additional students may join over the course of the academic year

About You

About You

• You must be available to host office hours and lead bi-weekly synchronous sessions with students Monday - Thursday during regular working hours in Eastern Time (we are open to part-time interest as well!)
• You have a strong sense of personal responsibility for the success of every student
• You have technical expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science
• You have a commitment to creating a culture of equity and inclusion
• You have a bachelor's or equivalent study in computer science; graduate degree in education, teaching or a related field preferred
• You have several years of computer science teaching experience and a track record of deep student learning
• You possess intellectual curiosity and the humility to reflect on, and continually grow in, your teaching practice
• You have experience using technology as a tool to communicate and collaborate with colleagues and enhance instruction; proficiency with delivering instruction via multiple platforms required (Examples: Google Suite, Apple operating systems, Zoom)
• You collaborate effectively with partner teachers. You listen deeply, ask great questions, and seek to understand when someone disagrees with you

Additional Information

This position is a remote role that starts in July or August, 2023. It is compensated at a monthly rate of between $5000-$7000, depending on experience and location.
