Job Description
What You Will Do
As a member of Personnel Security and reporting to the Personnel Security Group Leader, you will serve a vital function for the Laboratory's Badging program. The processing of badges for the Laboratory is a critical security element for protection of our nation's security assets. The Badge Office security applications and equipment must be always fully operational.
The Computer and Information Security Specialist II position will act as Liaison with Software and Applications Engineering (SAE), eXperience IT (XIT), Network Infrastructure and Engineering (NIE), Physical Security Systems (SEC-PSS), and many outside software/hardware vendors. You will interact and collaborate with other DOE sites (e.g., LLNL, SNL, HQ, etc.) frequently. You will be tasked to Investigate, design, and test new hardware and software options as new technologies and requirements become available. Responsibilities will include the set up and monitoring of badging stations and peripheral equipment in the LANL Badge Office locations in Los Alamos and Santa Fe. You will also serve as primary system administrator on badging stations to address routine and complex software issues. You will provide hardware support, to include troubleshooting, diagnoses, repair, and performance of preventive maintenance tasks on all equipment. This position will respond to error messages, systems crashes, equipment failures, and user concerns. You will also be responsible for the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment from other government agencies to include General Services Administration (GSA) and USAccess.
Personnel Security is one of the busiest groups at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Your attention to detail and ability to work well with other individuals, groups and independently will be a major part of obtaining success in this position.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and relational databases.
  • General knowledge and experience with digital imaging devices, scanners, and cameras
  • General knowledge and experience with printers (card, label, paper.)
  • Experience with troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment to analyze problems, propose solutions to management, and deploy and document implemented solutions.

Education: A minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's computer and information security policies, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to obtain a DOE "Q" clearance
  • Experience in Content Management System (CMS) or similar webpage design programs
  • Experience with supporting software development projects
  • Experience with MicroStrategy
  • Experience with LANL ticketing systems (Request Tracker, ServiceNow, etc.)
  • Familiarity with certificates and using them for authentication, signing and encryption.
  • Working knowledge of database development and methodologies

Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Note to Applicants:
This position requires the ability to perform on-Call duties. Must be able to respond within 2 hours of notification. Travel between multiple Badge Office locations (including Santa Fe) is frequently required throughout the week. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
