Job Description
We are seeking a Communications Specialist at the Lerner Center for Public Health Advocacy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to support communications efforts of the center.
The Lerner Center for Public Health Advocacy mission is to build and support the field of public health advocacy through excellence in partnerships, teaching, and practice that inspires action on our greatest public health challenges. Rooted in evidence and rigor, our programming drives action that demonstrably prevents diseases, promotes equity, and improves public health impact. The Communications Specialist will plan, design, and implement various communications and event activities with the goal of increasing the visibility and brand awareness of the Lerner Center through both digital and print channels. The Communications Specialist will work closely with Lerner Centers Communications Manager and in collaboration with other members of the Lerner Center team.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing visually appealing and engaging content, maintaining digital platforms, and supporting event coordination. Additionally, the candidate can demonstrate proficiency through a strong portfolio or collection of work samples.
This position has a modified hybrid work modality 2 days per week working in the office (based in Baltimore, MD), 3 days per week working remotely.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Content Development & Design
Design communications materials, including graphics, promotional assets, presentations, and other items.
Develop and implement the Lerner Centers content strategy.
Curate content for Lerner Center channels by regularly monitoring media, the Bloomberg Schools communications outlets, and other relevant content sources for news and updates pertinent to the Lerner Center and its audiences.
Ensure all communications projects and efforts comply with brand standards of Johns Hopkins University, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Lerner Center for Public Health Advocacy. Develop and maintain editorial and content calendars.

Social Media
Develop and publish content from the Lerner Center, partners, and other relevant sources to social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube).
Develop and implement social media campaigns and strategies.
Compile metrics from social media channels.
Website
Maintain the Lerner Center website by adding or editing content as needed.
Monitor website on a regular basis to ensure information is up-to-date and accurate.
Newsletter
Contribute to and disseminate newsletters and other email campaigns.
Compile metrics from email campaigns.
Events
Develop and implement promotion strategies for events.
Support in-person and virtual event coordination and logistics.
Special Skills & Knowledge
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
An eye for design and demonstrated proficiency in basic design principles.
Proficiency in social media platforms (i.e., Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube).
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work well with shifting deadlines.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically.
Experience in or ability to learn digital collaboration and project management tools.
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Interest in public health and public health advocacy.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field.
Two years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with design applications (i.e., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud).
Experience using web content management systems (i.e., Drupal).
Experience using email campaign applications (i.e., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
Experience with or strong interest in social media and/or graphic design.
Experience coordinating events.

Starting Salary Range: $44,850-$61,600-$78,360 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
