Position Summary
The Communications Operator is responsible for operating the telephone communication center between the public and patients, physicians, and personnel. Their typical duties may include answering a multi-line phone, taking messages and paging personnel, triaging emergency calls and routing them to appropriate personnel according to departmental and/or organizational policy. They may also monitor or operate other communication and emergency systems.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
  • Associates Degree, preferred
Experience
  • Six months of related experience is required (for Guest Services)
  • 1 or more years switchboard/ communications operator experience in a fast-paced, stressful environment (large acute care facility, emergency services setting, etc.) is preferred
Unit Specific Additional Requirement: For the Emergencies Services department, at least 1 year of Communication Center experience routing incoming calls or emergency dispatch experience is required
