Job Description
Do you have experience in biomedical public affairs communications? Do you want to have an impact on increasing public awareness of important biomedical scientific progress for the warfighter?
Ripple Effect is looking for a Communications Officer with 6 years of experience to support our client’s mission. This role will work closely with Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) to support the dissemination of information gained from the program. The combat casualty care research program leads to significant improvements in trauma care for those injured in combat, large amounts of knowledge are also generated, which benefits the broader public, including academia, industry, and the civilian healthcare community, as well as federal and state agencies.

Position Overview
  • Salary Range: $77,000.00 - $82,000.00 per year (how we pay and promote)
  • Travel Required: This position requires occasional local travel (Washington, D.C. area) for work-related meetings.
  • Location: Frederick, MD – CCCRP - Fort Detrick

  • Clearance: A security clearance is not required. Successful applicants, once hired, will be subject to a NACI/T1 background investigation.

Responsibilities
  • Support communications products, including brochures, pamphlets, and briefings for approved meetings, such as the Military Health System Research Symposium.
  • Prepare graphics, materials for websites, publications and presentation materials related to military and medical topics.
  • Develop strategic communications plans.
  • Conduct PAO reviews of content before public release.
  • Provide mission and research project summaries to the USAMRDC Public Affairs Office.
  • Develop and coordinate content and updates for national outreach campaigns.
  • Interview scientists and stakeholders to gather and organize information for public release.
  • Write, edit, and distribute various types of content, including materials for website, press releases, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Enhance and maintain the public pages of the CCCRP website. Use embedded video, pictures, and narratives to portray the work underway and projected for the future.
Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Experience developing and implementing communications or public relations plans
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6 years of relevant work experience
Basic Requirements
  • Ability to translate complex, technical information into digestible written and graphic content for public consumption
  • Strong computer skills and intermediate Microsoft Office abilities
  • Ability to develop basic graphics and website content and prepare visually pleasing presentations for clear communication of scientific topics. Use embedded video, pictures, and narratives to portray the CCCRP portfolio. 
  • Highly organized, efficient, and extremely detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated strength in oral and written communication skills for face-to-face interaction with clients, coworkers, and stakeholders, including professional emails
  • Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks and organize information in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, relying on your own resources and initiative

Skills That Set You Apart
  • Knowledge of Army PAO/OPSEC regulations and DoD, Army, and MEDCOM policies
  • Experience in public relations in grant, biomedical, or military research environment
  • Experience working with public affairs offices in government agencies, advocacy organizations, research associations, and/or biotechnical industries
