Job Description

The Communications Manager (CM) provides communications expertise and vision. The CM will work collaboratively with staff and board to move the NCAP mission forward, with deep commitment to protect community and environmental health, as well as to social justice and racial equity in food and land management systems. The CM supports a healthy, engaged workplace culture.

The CM has the authority to create and manage the communications plan; assist other Managers in improving communications; make communications decisions with input from staff and board; interface with the public and media; and carry out other executive-level decisions as appropriate.


RESPONSIBILITIES


The Communications Manager has responsibilities related to overall communications, supporter engagement and fundraising duties, as well as administrative and organizational health duties. The CM will work collaboratively with staff and board to ensure implementation of NCAP’s strategic plan, including program strategy and resource development. The CM supports continuous improvement of internal systems and mobilization of adequate resources for long-term organizational health.

Communications

•Work with NCAP staff, board and partners to develop clear, consistent and inspiring communications to convey our mission and work to promote alternatives to pesticides

•Develop, monitor, and evaluate the annual NCAP Communications Plan and related calendars to meet agreed upon benchmarks. Coordinate implementation and evaluation of benchmarks in annual operating plan and strategic plan

•In conjunction with staff, plan, develop, edit, promote and evaluate engagement with the following communications: monthly email newsletters, special email blasts, blog posts and other communications as needed

•Lead graphic design and short videos for publications (factsheets, brochures, infographics, annual report, etc.)

•Update content on NCAP website using NationBuilder, and continue to manage and improve website’s accessibility and user engagement. Collect and analyze data on web presence, social media, and other statistics with the intent to grow NCAP’s online presence

•Oversee the content and timing of NCAP’s presence within social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn

•Oversee media relations, including regular communications with media outlets and creation and distribution of news releases


Fundraising

•Assist with writing/editing and sending out appeals for donation, as needed

•Assist with fundraising campaigns and other events, including marketing and graphic design of materials

•Improve member database (Salesforce) and integration with website (manage Zapier), email marketing and other platforms, in order to strengthen and tailor engagement with supporters and best utilize our data

Administrative

•Contribute to NCAP program activities for communication related activities: reviewing applications, reports and updates, email outreach

•Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other planning and evaluation sessions. Provide requested materials for reports to board and donors

•Support monthly staff meeting discussions as part of a rotating facilitator schedule



QUALIFICATIONS


The Communications Manager should be able to skillfully engage with diverse partners and members, show cultural competency and an openness to on-going learning. The CM will understand and navigate a range of power dynamics well, including those rooted in racial or gender privilege. The CM will ensure sound processes underscore the vital work performed by the organization.


•At least four years of communications experience

•Demonstrated capabilities in graphic design

•Proficient in Microsoft Suite & Adobe Creative Suite, and short video creation tools

•Familiarity with drag and drop website and email marketing, social media content management

•Experience or interest in fundraising communications

•Bilingual in Spanish desirable, not required

•Dedication to working toward the use of ecologically sound solutions to reduce the use of pesticides

•Experience or interest in shared leadership models and collaborative decision-making

•Active commitment to working toward an anti-racist, multicultural organization

•Experience with anti-oppression and environmental justice work; ability to share a personal racial equity journey

•Skills as an effective communicator and in representing the organization with key audiences



COMPENSATION


Salary & Benefits

The hiring salary for this position is $25/hour at 25 hours a week. More hours may be offered as interest and funding allows. NCAP offers health and dental insurance (90% covered for employee only); an IRA retirement plan; vacation and sick leave; 12 floating holidays; and flexible scheduling.

Work environment

NCAP is headquartered in Eugene, Oregon with a combination of office staff and remote staff in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. The Fundraising Manager may choose to work out of the headquarter office or remotely from home within NCAP’s region, with a home office stipend. (We will also consider northern CA). Up to $2,000 in relocation assistance provided to Eugene, OR.
